Serous borderline tumors are rare, benign ovarian neoplasms that may recur and undergo malignant transformation to low-grade serous carcinomas (LGSCs). In this report, a 50-year-old female with a remote history of a serous borderline ovarian tumor experienced a recurrence of LGSC, presenting as a large solitary subcutaneous mass anterior to the sternum after a 33-year disease-free interval. The described case highlights the unpredictable nature of this disease and the importance of implementing lifelong surveillance strategies.

OBJECTIVE: This open-label, non-randomized, phase I study examined the pharmacokinetics (PK) and radiation dosimetry of a single dose of radium-223 in Japanese patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) and bone metastases.
METHODS: Six male Japanese patients (mean age 72.5 years, range 65-79 years) with histologically or cytologically confirmed stage IV adenocarcinoma of the prostate were recruited. A single IV dose of radium-223 was delivered intravenously (IV) via slow bolus over a 2-5 min period: Cohort 1 received 50 kBq/kg and Cohort 2 received 100 kBq/kg.

A case of osseous Kaposi sarcoma in a 35-year-old man is described. The patient (HIV-positive for 8 years) suffered from cutaneous Kaposi sarcoma and presented with right-sided chest pain. He underwent a chest CT scan that revealed three osteolytic lesions involving rib and vertebra with large soft tissue masses, without cutaneous lesions at these sites. CT-guided core needle biopsy led to a histological diagnosis of Kaposi sarcoma.

We report a case of solitary plasmacytoma of rib origin in a 46-year-old man. CT revealed a focal expanding mass in the right fifth rib. The mass showed ridging, cortical thickening, and fine erosion on the inner aspect of the cortex and had partly penetrated the bone. On both T1- and T2-weighted MR images, the mass showed low to intermediate intensity, and contrast studies showed homogeneous enhancement. Although no optimal dose-response relationship has been defined for the local control of extramedullary plasmacytomas, the author recommends high local doses of 5000 cGy or more and field sizes sufficient to cover the primary mass, all its extensions as evident by CT scan, and the regional lymph nodes. Factors influencing survival were reviewed in 464 patients with recurrent breast cancer. Site of first recurrence and rate of tumor progression governed prognosis more than choice of initial therapy.
