RSU-1069 is one of a group of compounds of particular interest in radiobiology, since it combines the nitroimidazole ring with a side chain bearing a monofunctional alkylating agent. This compound has been shown to be a potent radiosensitizer both in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, it has recently been shown to be an effective hypoxic cell cytotoxin in vitro. Administration of dimethylhydrazine (DMH) to adult rats by two subcutaneous injections each of 120 mg(base)/kg body weight and spaced 10 days apart resulted in the development of renal tumours in over 90 per cent. of treated animals at 30 weeks after injection. The tumours were frequently bilateral and multiple, and had the structure of the "mesenchymal" tumours which occur in a high incidence following treatment with nitrosamines. The incidence of tumours both in the small intestine and in the colon was lower than that experienced using a weekly DMH treatment schedule.

Adoptive immunity against a syngeneic hepatoma (line-10) of Sewall-Wright inbred strain 2 guinea pigs was analyzed by a two-dimensional titration of iv transferred immune lymphoid cells versus intradermal tumor challenges. Thirty-eight biopsies of homogeneous oral leukoplakias were transplanted to subcutaneous sites of nude mice and protected from overlying cutaneous tissue by Millipore filters. Single doses of DMNA from 8 to 15 mg/kg body weight (B.W.) were given in the feed, by stomach tube or by subcutaneous application to 37 foxes. We used three techniques to examine excision repair in human cells treated with ultraviolet radiation, N-acetoxy-2-acetylaminofluorene, and a combination of the two. The effect of ulcers induced by iodoacetamine on the development of gastric tumors by N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine was studied in male Wistar rats. The ulcerative lesions induced by iodoacetamide were confined symmetrically to the fundic region along the limiting ridge in the stomach and the pyloric region was unaffected. Activities of N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase, N-acetyl-β-D-galactosaminidase, β-D-galactosidase and α-L-fucosidase were measured in rat colonic tumours induced by 1,2-dimethylhydrazine. Purpose To (a) identify key expressed genes in the periablational rim after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and their role in driving the stimulation of distant tumor growth and (b) use adjuvant drug therapies to block key identified mediator(s) to suppress off-target tumorigenic effects of hepatic RFA. Materials and Methods This institutional animal care and use committee-approved study was performed in C57BL6 mice (n = 20) and F344 rats (n = 124).
