Using neural networks for (13)c NMR chemical shift prediction-comparison with traditional methods.

Interpretation of (13)C chemical shifts is essential for structure elucidation of organic molecules by NMR. In this article, we present an improved neural network approach and compare its performance to that of commonly used approaches. Specifically, our recently proposed neural network (J. Chem. Inf. Comput. Sci. 2000, 40, 1169-1176) is improved by introducing an extended hybrid numerical description of the carbon atom environment, resulting in a standard deviation (std. dev.) of 2.4 ppm for an independent test data set of approximately 42,500 carbons. Thus, this neural network allows fast an

Research on Switching Current Model of GaN HEMT Based on Neural Network.

The switching characteristics of GaN HEMT devices exhibit a very complex dynamic nonlinear behavior and multi-physics coupling characteristics, and traditional switching current models based on physical mechanisms have significant limitations. This article adopts a hybrid architecture of convolutional neural network and long short-term memory network (CNN-LSTM). In the 1D-CNN layer, the one-dimensional convolutional neural network can automatically learn and extract local transient features of time series data by sliding convolution operations on time series data through its convolution kernel

Hyperchaos and the fusion of Moore's automaton with gold sequences for augmented medical image encryption.

This study presents a sophisticated encryption methodology specifically designed for the secure transfer of medical images across cloud services. The initial phase of the algorithm involves the consolidation of multiple images to form a single augmented image, which is then subjected to the first layer of encryption. This layer employs an encryption key and an S-box generated through a Memristive Coupled Neural Network Model (MCNNM), establishing a strong foundation for security. Following this, the novel integration of Moore's Automaton with Gold sequences is applied as a confusion mechanism,

Observer-based ADP for secure resource allocation in high-order nonlinear multi-agent systems under FDI attacks.

This paper investigates the secure resource allocation problem (RAP) for high-order nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) under false data injection (FDI) attacks. Different from conventional RAPs, the considered problem involves both actuator-side and sensor-side attacks, which may simultaneously corrupt the closed-loop control input and the output information used for local gradient computation. As a result, the gradient-consensus mechanism and resource-balance condition may be disrupted, leading to incorrect resource allocation or even closed-loop instability. To address this problem, an obs

Multi-stage dual-domain progressive network with synergistic training for sparse-view CT reconstruction.

Sparse-view computed tomography (SVCT) significantly reduces patient radiation exposure and accelerates data acquisition by using fewer projections for tomographic reconstruction. However, reconstructed images often suffer from severe artifacts, which limit their diagnostic utility. Additionally, existing CT reconstruction methods require separate training for different sparse-view scenarios, which is cumbersome and lacks the flexibility to adapt to new situations. In this paper, we propose a synergistic reconstruction method for diverse sparse-view CT scenarios. Specifically, we introduce a M

Exploratory analysis of Type B Aortic Dissection (TBAD) segmentation in 2D CTA images using various kernels.

Type-B Aortic Dissection is a rare but fatal cardiovascular disease characterized by a tear in the inner layer of the aorta, affecting 3.5 per 100,000 individuals annually. In this work, we explore the feasibility of leveraging two-dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models to perform accurate slice-by-slice segmentation of true lumen, false lumen and false lumen thrombus in Computed Tomography Angiography images. The study performed an exploratory analysis of three 2D U-Net models: the baseline 2D U-Net, a variant of U-Net with atrous convolutions, and a U-Net with a custom layer f

Multi-energy CT material decomposition using graph model improved CNN.

In spectral CT imaging, the coefficient image of the basis material obtained by the material decomposition technique can estimate the tissue composition, and its accuracy directly affects the disease diagnosis. Although the precision of material decomposition is increased by employing convolutional neural networks (CNN), extracting the non-local features from the CT image is restricted using the traditional CNN convolution operator. A graph model built by multi-scale non-local self-similar patterns is introduced into multi-material decomposition (MMD). We proposed a novel MMD method based on g

A pipeline for automated deep learning liver segmentation (PADLLS) from contrast enhanced CT exams.

Multiple studies have created state-of-the-art liver segmentation models using Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNNs) such as the V-net and H-DenseUnet. Oversegmentation however continues to be a problem. We set forth to address these limitations by developing a an automated workflow that leverages the strengths of different DCNN architectures, resulting in a pipeline that enables fully automated liver segmentation. A Pipeline for Automated Deep Learning Liver Segmentation (PADLLS) was developed and implemented that cascades multiple DCNNs that were trained on more than 200 CT scans. First

EFNet: evidence fusion network for tumor segmentation from PET-CT volumes.

Precise delineation of target tumor from positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) is a key step in clinical practice and radiation therapy. PET-CT co-segmentation actually uses the complementary information of two modalities to reduce the uncertainty of single-modal segmentation, so as to obtain more accurate segmentation results. At present, the PET-CT segmentation methods based on fully convolutional neural network (FCN) mainly adopt image fusion and feature fusion. The current fusion strategies do not consider the uncertainty of multi-modal segmentation and complex feature

LPAQR-Net: Efficient Vertebra Segmentation From Biplanar Whole-Spine Radiographs.

Vertebra segmentation from biplanar whole-spine radiographs is highly demanded in the quantitative assessment of scoliosis and the resultant sagittal deformities. However, automatic vertebra segmentation from the radiographs is extremely challenging due to the low contrast, blended boundaries, and superimposition of many layers, especially in the sagittal plane. To alleviate these problems, we propose a lightweight pyramid attention quick refinement network (LPAQR-Net) for efficient and accurate vertebra segmentation. The LPAQR-Net consists of three components: (1) a lightweight backbone netwo

Multi-task edge-recalibrated network for male pelvic multi-organ segmentation on CT images.

Automated male pelvic multi-organ segmentation on CT images is highly desired for applications, including radiotherapy planning. To further improve the performance and efficiency of existing automated segmentation methods, in this study, we propose a multi-task edge-recalibrated network (MTER-Net), which aims to overcome the challenges, including blurry boundaries, large inter-patient appearance variations, and low soft-tissue contrast. The proposed MTER-Net is equipped with the following novel components. (a) To exploit the saliency and stability of femoral heads, we employed a light-weight l

Artificial neural networks to predict presence of significant pathology in patients presenting to routine colorectal clinics.

AIM: Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are computer programs used to identify complex relations within data. Routine predictions of presence of colorectal pathology based on population statistics have little meaning for individual patient. This results in large number of unnecessary lower gastrointestinal endoscopies (LGEs - colonoscopies and flexible sigmoidoscopies). We aimed to develop a neural network algorithm that can accurately predict presence of significant pathology in patients attending routine outpatient clinics for gastrointestinal symptoms. METHOD: Ethics approval was obtained a

Decoding semantic categories: insights from an fMRI ALE meta analysis.

Objective. The human brain organizes conceptual knowledge into semantic categories; however, the extent to which these categories share common or distinct neural representations remains unclear. This study aims to clarify this organizational structure by identifying consistent, modality-controlled activation patterns across several widely used and frequently investigated semantic domains in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) research. By quantifying the distinctiveness and overlap among these patterns, we provide a more precise foundation for understanding the brain's semantic archite

End-to-end EEG artifact removal method via nested generative adversarial network.

As physiological artifacts commonly overlap with EEG signals in both time and frequency domains, developing an effective end-to-end EEG artifact removal method is essential for a brain-computer interface (BCI) system. An end-to-end artifact removal method based on nested generative adversarial network (GAN) is proposed, to recover the EEG signals from artifact-contaminated ones. The nested GAN consists of two components: an inner GAN operating in time-frequency domain and an outer GAN functioning in time domain. A light-weighted complex-valued restormer, designed in time-frequency domain, is e

Topology-enhanced machine learning for speech signal processing.

In artificial-intelligence-aided signal processing, existing deep learning models often exhibit a black-box structure. Here, conceptually beyond spectral analysis, we demonstrate that topological methods not only effectively capture intrinsic and complex structural information but can also enhance neural networks. We provide a transparent methodology, TopCap, to capture topological features inherent in time series for basic machine learning. Compared to prior approaches, we obtain descriptors that probe finer information such as the vibration of a time series. Notably, in classifying voiced an

URSMamba: Universal remote sensing image steganography using state space model.

Image steganography involves concealing a secret image within a cover image for covert transmission, which has been widely developed in information security. However, current research often overlooks remote sensing images, which inherently possess higher confidentiality. The abundant ground object distributions and multiple spectral bands in remote sensing images present significant challenges to concealing and revealing ability, and hiding capacity of image steganography. In this work, we propose URSMamba, a universal remote sensing image steganography based on State Space Model. Specifically

Liver segmentation network based on detail enhancement and multi-scale feature fusion.

Due to the low contrast of abdominal CT (Computer Tomography) images and the similar color and shape of the liver to other organs such as the spleen, stomach, and kidneys, liver segmentation presents significant challenges. Additionally, 2D CT images obtained from different angles (such as sagittal, coronal, and transverse planes) increase the diversity of liver morphology and the complexity of segmentation. To address these issues, this paper proposes a Detail Enhanced Convolution (DE Conv) to improve liver feature learning and thereby enhance liver segmentation performance. Furthermore, to e

Mesh Regression Based Shape Enhancement Operator Designed for Organ Segmentation.

Organ delineation is critical for diagnosis and treatment planning so as to attract a lot of attention. Recently, neural network based methods yield accurate segmentation metrics like dice coefficient. However, they have to face the problem of indistinct boundaries since segmentation is usually modeled as a pixel classification task ignoring anatomical priors. Inspired by the fact that anatomical information is an essential prior for doctors in organ segmentation, this paper proposes a mesh regression-based shape enhancement operator. This operator innovatively models the refinement of segment

AIP-Net: an attention-integrated pyramid network for computer-aided diagnosis and segmentation of gastric lesion in ultrasound images.

Objective.Automatic segmentation of gastric lesions in ultrasound images is crucial for the early diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer, the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. However, the limited amount of related research and the challenges posed by variable lesion morphology, artifacts, blurred boundaries, and intensity inhomogeneity make accurate segmentation particularly difficult, especially for less-experienced clinicians.Approach.To address these challenges, we propose a novel attention-integrated pyramid network (AIP-Net) designed to enhance segmentation accu
