The study reported here was undertaken to investigate the food intake and nutrient adequacy of rural population in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh. A total of 1200 pre-school children were covered under the study from three divisions of Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. A 3 day dietary survey was conducted by a weighed method for estimating the food intake. Nutritional Value of the food consumed was calculated. Nutritional status was assessed by anthropometry. At the request of UNICEF, the authors conducted a rapid nutritional assessment of children from birth to five years of age in southern Iraq during the second half of June 1991. Nutritional support regimens are currently based on estimates of energy expenditure, and these estimates are then increased substantially in patients with severe trauma or sepsis because of a presumed hypermetabolic state. Forty-seven cancer patients were selected for study based on their candidacy for hyperalimentation. Each patient received selected skin test antigens intradermally in the forearm prior to the initiation of hyperalimentation, and at 7-day intervals throughout treatment with either chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery. Of 23 patients who received chemotherapy, 17 initially had negative skin tests. Thirteen of these patients had positive skin tests after an average of 11.4 +/- 5.5 days of hyperalimentation. Chronic non-infectious osteomyelitis (CNO) is a rare, inflammatory process associated with pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Signs and symptoms of CNO parallel scurvy, a nutritional deficiency that can affect children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This is the first report of a child initially thought to have scurvy, then subsequently diagnosed with CNO as the presenting manifestation of Crohn's disease. This case enhances the literature elucidating extra-intestinal manifestations of IBD and pediatric nutritional deficiencies.
