We treated 15 children with atrioventricular septal defects (6 complete type and 9 incomplete type) using total circulatory annuloplasty for mitral regurgitation. In 14 patients, total circulatory annuloplasty was performed with absorbable suture and in one patient with polypropylene suture. Operative death was one patient associated with tetralogy of Fallot and another 14 patients survived. Filter paper discs saturated with dried blood can be used in the Immunotube solid-phase thyroxine radioimmunoassay. This assay utilizes polypropylene tubes to which antibody to thyroxine is covalently bound. We studied the postmortem histologic characteristics of two eyes that had undergone penetrating keratoplasty and transscleral suturing of a posterior chamber intraocular lens for bullous keratopathy. Many procedures have been described for the repair of rectal prolapse. Some are associated with a high recurrence rate and do not correct associated fecal incontinence. During the last four years, we have operated on 15 patients using a puborectal sling fashioned of polypropylene mesh. Nine were women and six were men, with ages ranging from 25 to 72 years. Eight patients had fecal incontinence. During a follow-up of six months to four years, rectal prolapse did not recur. Fecal incontinence was totally resolved in all cases. Vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG) has largely been abandoned due to late complications, including the rare but serious erosion of prosthetic mesh into the gastric lumen.
