The anti-hypertensive effect of Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza) and Gegen (Pueraria lobata) formula in rats and its underlying mechanisms of vasorelaxation.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Radix Salviae miltiorrhizae (Danshen) and Radix Puerariae lobatae (Gegen) have long been used in traditional Chinese Medicine and serve as the principal herbs in treating cardiovascular disease. AIMS OF THE STUDY: In the present study, an aqueous extract comprising Danshen and Gegen in the ratio of 7:3 (DG) was investigated for its anti-hypertension in vivo and vasodilative activities ex vivo. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The anti-hypertensive effect of DG extract was investigated in spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) by measuring systolic blood pressure (SBP). Or

The Cl-/HCO3- exchanger pendrin is downregulated during oral co-administration of exogenous mineralocorticoid and KCl in patients with primary aldosteronism.

In primary aldosteronism (PA), the occurrence of K+ loss and hypertension suggest alterations in renal tubular transport, but the molecular basis of these alterations in humans is unclear. In this study, urinary extracellular vesicles (uEVs) isolated from patients undergoing fludrocortisone suppression testing (FST, as a means of confirming or excluding PA) were analyzed using mass spectrometry-based proteomics to determine the combined effects of an aldosterone analogue, NaCl and KCl supplementation on renal tubular protein abundance. Of quantified proteins, the Cl-/HCO3- exchanger pendrin de

Gitelman syndrome: an analysis of the underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms of acid-base and electrolyte abnormalities.

Gitelman syndrome is the most common inherited tubular disease resulting from mutations of the SLC12A3 gene that encodes the thiazide-sensitive sodium-chloride cotransporter in the early distal convoluted tubules. The review presents the underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms of acid-base and electrolyte abnormalities observed in patients with Gitelman syndrome. The syndrome is usually characterized by hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis in combination with hypomagnesemia and hypocalciuria. Additionally, increased chloride excretion and renin/aldosterone levels, hypophosphatemia (occasionally), hy

Hypokalemic periodic paralysis.

Hypokalemic periodic paralysis is an unusual disease that may begin dramatically. Although terrifying to the patient, the attacks can usually be controlled if the proper diagnosis is made. Although much has been done to determine the pathogenesis, many questions remain unanswered.

[Effect of the ionic composition of the environment on the intracellular potential of the alga Acetabularia].

Concentration of K+-, Na+-, Mg++-, Ca++-, Cl-ions defined in Acetabularia crenulata cell was the same as that of Acetabularia mediterranea, both were cultivated under the same conditions. At the variations of the ionic composition of the external medium it has been shown that the potential of Acetabularia (A.) cell depends on K+-, Cl-ions and alga A. can accumulate K+- Cl-ions and lose Na+, Mg++ ones when there is a deficiency of these ions in the medium. Na+-, Mg++-ions participation in the generation of the rest potential of Alga A. is insignificant. K+- ion is able to change the ionic perme
