AIMS: Cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2R) is an important regulator of immunoinflammatory responses. Interestingly, studies have demonstrated that CB2R was expressed in metabolically active tissue, so we speculated that CB2R might have a crucial impact on energy balance. Neuropathic pain is evoked by aberrant sensory processing in the peripheral or central nervous system, which is characterized by persistent pain, tactile allodynia, or hyperalgesia. Neuroinflammation is associated with the initiation and maintenance of persistent pain in both the peripheral and central nervous systems. Hydrogen sulfide plays important regulatory roles in different physiological and pathological conditions. Therefore, we investigated the effect of hydrogen sulfide on allodynia, hyperalgesia and cytokine release in rats with neuropathic pain and the related regulatory mechanism.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: An alternative approach in the treatment of acne vulgaris is photodynamic therapy (PDT) that uses light and aminolevulinic acid (ALA)-induced protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) production to eradicate Propionibacterium acnes found in acne lesions. PpIX formation is dependent on ALA percutaneaous penetration. In this study, to enhance ALA penetration and subsequent accumulation of PpIX, skin temperature was increased with radiant infrared (IR) prior to ALA-PDT application and compared to ALA-PDT alone in the treatment of inflammatory acne.

OBJECTIVE: Menstrual disorders are common in young women, and heavy menstrual blood losses (MBL) are an important cause of anaemia. Menstrual morbidity normally goes untreated in developing countries where cultural barriers also serve to mask the problems. We investigated the prevalence of menstrual morbidity, and measured MBL and its relationship to iron deficiency in a rural adolescent population. The rationale was to assess whether or not reducing heavy MBL could be part of a strategy to reduce iron deficiency anaemia.
