What colleges are doing about student binge drinking. A survey of college administrators.

In 1999, the Harvard School of Public Health College Alcohol Study surveyed 734 US college administrators to learn what colleges were doing to prevent binge drinking. Respondents rated the severity of student alcohol-abuse problems and described prevention efforts and institutional investments in prevention infrastructure. Prevention practices were widespread in the areas of general education about alcohol, use of policy controls to limit access to alcohol, restricting advertising at home-game sporting events, and allocation of living space to alcohol-free dormitories. Programming was less pre

Four decades of shigellosis in Israel: epidemiology of a growing public health problem.

Despite the improved standard of living in Israel, shigellosis remains a common disease. Examination of trends in the incidence of shigellosis in Israel between 1951 and 1987 showed a period of declining rates followed by an increase in the reported incidence beginning around 1969. This increase was mainly due to Shigella sonnei; rates of infection with Shigella flexneri remained relatively constant. Trends showed marked differences between age groups and between ethnic groups. In comparison, the rates in the United States--much lower than those in Israel--began to decline in the early 1950s a

Spatial Accessibility to Primary Healthcare Services by Multimodal Means of Travel: Synthesis and Case Study in the City of Calgary.

Universal access to primary healthcare facilities is a driving goal of healthcare organizations. Despite Canada's universal access to primary healthcare status, spatial accessibility to healthcare facilities is still an issue of concern due to the non-uniform distribution of primary healthcare facilities and population over space-leading to spatial inequity in the healthcare sector. Spatial inequity is further magnified when health-related accessibility studies are analyzed on the assumption of universal car access. To overcome car-centric studies of healthcare access, this study compares diff

Analyzing electrocardiographic, echocardiographic, and cardiac marker changes in organophosphorus poisoning cases at a tertiary care hospital of Jharkhand, India.

INTRODUCTION: Organophosphorus insecticides, widely used worldwide, are a significant public health risk in developing countries, causing 3 million poisonings and 300,000 deaths annually. Despite a 20% fatality rate in Asia, improved care is reducing mortality. Improper storage and accessibility contribute to frequent suicides, especially among lower socio-economic groups. Cardiac complications, often fatal, are preventable with early treatment. This study examines 60 acute poisoning cases at RIMS, Ranchi, highlighting the need for improved management. Current landscape of academic and point of care CAR-T cell therapy in low-middle income countries.

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy has emerged as a transformative treatment for patients with relapsed or refractory hematologic malignancies, offering new possibilities beyond conventional transplantation. Since their approval in high-income countries, CAR-T products have demonstrated remarkable efficacy; however, their implementation in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) remains limited due insufficient infrastructure, complex regulatory requirements and high costs. In some countries, like Mexico, these barriers are particularly pronounced, with limited access to clinica

Centering Equity in the Nation's Weather, Water, and Climate Services.

Water, weather, and climate affect everyone. However, their impacts on various communities can be very different based on who has access to essential services and environmental knowledge. Structural discrimination, including racism and other forms of privileging and exclusion, affects people's lives and health, with ripples across all sectors of society. In the United States, the need to equitably provide weather, water, and climate services is uplifted by the Justice40 Initiative (Executive Order 14008), which mandates 40% of the benefits of certain federal climate and clean energy investment
