Oral Surgery in Patients With Glanzmann Thrombasthenia: A Case Series.

Glanzmann thrombasthenia is a severe defect of platelet function caused by an inherited deficiency or dysfunction of the glycoprotein IIb/IIIa complex, the platelet fibrinogen receptor. Patients with Glanzmann thrombasthenia experience lifelong spontaneous and post-traumatic mucocutaneous bleeding diathesis. Surgery is usually very challenging, requiring close cooperation among surgeons, hematologists, and anesthesiologists. For anatomic reasons, oral surgery is particularly difficult owing to the inherent risk of hemorrhage and the difficulty in achieving local hemostasis. In the present repo

Healing of a cyst-like lesion involving an implant with nonsurgical management.

Numerous reports primarily in the implant literature outline the loss of an implant claimed to be as a consequence of endodontic pathosis from an adjacent tooth. This case report outlines the resolution of a large cyst-like periapical lesion that resolved with nonsurgical management when the canal was dressed with calcium hydroxide on 4 occasions because of persistent intracanal exudate. A favorable healing outcome was achieved for the affected tooth and the implant. This report adds to a growing body of evidence to suggest that implant retained crowns are not vulnerable when an endodontic inf

[Expression of interleukin-17F in human apical periodontitis lesions].

OBJECTIVE: To examine the expression of interleukin-17F (IL-17F) in apical periodontitis lesions. METHODS: Human apical periodontitis lesions were collected after periapical surgery from November 1, 2009 to August 1, 2011. After histological processing, serial sectioning, HE staining, and microscopic analysis, 33 periapical cysts and 18 periapical granulomas were selected for immunohistochemical analysis for IL-17F. Five alveolar bone samples were obtained from a group of impacted third molars recommended for extraction. These bone samples did not show any inflammation and were used as normal

Spontaneous alignment of permanent successors after enucleation of odontogenic cysts associated with primary teeth.

Pulpotomy and pulpectomy occasionally lead to cyst formation in the primary dentition. They show specific clinical features of large size, rapid growth, buccal expansion and displacement of permanent teeth. Complete enucleation of the cyst with extraction of the associated primary teeth and preservation of the permanent teeth appeared to be the most suitable treatment option. Normal alignment of the permanent teeth occurred spontaneously even their initial positions were highly unfavourable.

Conservative management of a large maxillary cyst.

This article describes the treatment of a large maxillary cyst by root canal treatment and decompression using a hollow drain made from surgical suction tubing. The rationale behind the use of this technique is reviewed and its advantages highlighted.

[The surgical treatment of periradicular cysts of the jaws].

The author has succeeded in improving functional results of surgical treatment of the teeth that caused pararadical cysts. This was due to access to the pathologic focus, preservation of the 'causative' tooth root, filling of the residual osseous cavity with formalin-treated allogenic placental transplant. A total of 79 patients were operated on using this method. Late results were followed up for 2 years, no recurrences occurred and functional status of the operated on 'causative' teeth permitted their use as abutment teeth for bridge dentures.

[Osseointegration of synthetics. Clinical experience].

Some products, for bone's syntethic implants (resorbable or not), are treated in the first part, in particular way the beta-TCMP (resorbable bone's integrator) for valueing its good validity. In the second part the Authors show some clinic cases treated with beta-TCMP and the obtained results. Then generic indications around the use of the product have been showed for the good answer in the bone's rigeneration.

Patterns of keratin-expression in rests of Malassez and periapical lesions.

Using immunocytochemistry and a panel of monoclonal antibodies directed against various keratin polypeptides we examined specimens of normal periodontal ligament, periapical granulomas and inflammatory dental cysts. Epithelial elements with the appearance of rests of Malassez were identified in 6 specimens of normal periodontium and 10 periapical granulomas. Altered epithelium was present in 16 periapical granulomas and a lining epithelium in 10 inflammatory dental cysts. The patterns of binding of antibodies by these epithelia indicated that (a) keratin 19 was expressed by all epithelia, and

Frequency and Demographic Profile of Odontogenic Cysts in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Retrospective Multicenter Study.

UNLABELLED: Odontogenic cysts (OCs) are etiologically diverse conditions with a shared origin in the jaws. Unfortunately, there is a scarcit … n almost equal distribution of OCs between the maxilla (47.0%) and the mandible (53.0%). The apical radicular cyst (ARC) accounted for half of the cases, followed by dentigerous cyst (DC) (29.3%) and odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) (14.2%). Enucleation was the most common treatment modality (52.8%), followed by excision (35.0%). Thirteen cases showed recurrence: on …

The impact of COVID-19 pandemic on patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes after treatment of odontogenic cysts with decompression followed by surgery.

OBJECTIVE: The global pandemic outbreak has caused significant limitations in the public's access to routine dental care. The aim of this st … s on average 6.45 months. Histologic examination at the time of definitive surgery was 54.5% of the radicular cyst and 45.5% of odontogenic keratocyst. The mean reduction rate was 80.8%. No recurrence were recorded. Patient satisfaction values related to treatment modality were 3.91 for the Likert scale and 79.45% for the VAS scale. 81.8% of patients recommend t …

Evaluation of polycaprolactone scaffold for guided bone regeneration in maxillary and mandibular defects: A clinical study.

OBJECTIVE: This study was carried out to assess bone regeneration following the use of polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffold in maxillary and mand … regions, all these nine cases failed to demonstrate appreciable bone density gain. Only one case of radicular cyst in the mandible was recorded to have satisfactory healing. CONCLUSION: Although PCL scaffold has the potential for bone regeneration in osseous defects, the scaffold exhibited marked tendency for dehiscence in intraoral defects that significantly a …

Syndecan-1 (CD138) and Ki-67 expression in odontogenic cystic lesions.

The aim of this study was to assess the immunohistochemical expression of syndecan-1 (CD138) and Ki-67 in radicular cysts (RC), dentigerous cysts (DC) and keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KOT). Thirty-five RC, 22 DC and 17 KOT were used in the study and immunohistochemical reactions using anti-syndecan-1 and anti-Ki-67 antibodies were performed by the streptavidin-biotin-peroxidase method. Fisher's exact test and Spearman's correlation coefficient were used for statistical analysis of data. Among the studied lesions, no differences in the syndecan-1 expression were observed, but the suprabasal…

Expression of Bcl-2 in Primary and Recurrent Odontogenic Keratocysts in Comparison with Other Odontogenic Lesions.

PURPOSE: To determine the biological behaviour of common odontogenic cystic lesions by analysing and comparing bcl-2 expression amongst them. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our study covered 90 formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue samples: 26 primary cases each of radicular cysts (RC), dentigerous cysts (DC) and odontogenic keratocysts (OKC) and 12 of recurrent OKCs. Bcl-2 expression was analysed immunohistochemically and data analysis was accomplished using SPSS version 17.0. Means were taken for age while for gender and site of the lesions frequencies and percentages were determined. The Chi-squ…
