Reproductive outsourcing: an empirical ethics account of cross-border reproductive care in Canada.

Cross-border reproductive care (CBRC) can be defined as the movement from one jurisdiction to another for medically assisted reproduction (MAR). CBRC raises many ethical concerns that have been addressed extensively. However, the conclusions are still based on scarce evidence even considering the global scale of CBRC. Empirical ethics appears as a way to foster this ethical reflection on CBRC while attuning it with the experiences of its main actors. To better understand the 'in and out' situation of CBRC in Canada, we conducted an ethnographic study taking a 'critically applied ethics' approa…

Cytogenetic findings and reproductive outcome of infertile couples referred to an assisted reproduction program.

It is still undefined whether all the couples entering an assisted reproduction program should undergo to karyotype analysis. The present study was conducted to determine the prevalence of chromosomal abnormalities in a non-selected sample of 1,146 couples referred to assisted reproduction technologies (ART), and to analyze the outcome of pregnancies from couples in whom cytogenetic anomalies were detected. Irrespective of the infertility factor, fertilization was achieved by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). A total number of 35 karyotype anomalies were diagnosed, corresponding to an a…

Gender reassignment and assisted reproduction: present and future reproductive options for transsexual people.

Transsexual people who want transition to their desired gender have to undergo hormonal and surgical treatments, which lead to irreversible loss of their reproductive potential. This paper argues that transsexual people should be offered the same options as any person that risks losing their germ cells because of treatment for a malignant disease. Indeed, transsexual women (male-to-female transsexual patients) may be given the option to store spermatozoa before they start hormonal therapy, so that their gametes may be used in future relationships. This may be especially important for the many

[Status of local reproductive tract immunity in men with inflammatory diseases of the reproductive system].

The clinico-immunological study of 80 patients with chronic prostatitis of different etiology was carried out. As controls, 20 healthy adult males were used. Mucous membranes of the reproductive tract were found to have different mechanisms of antimicrobial protection whose disturbances led to the inflammatory process. The clinico-immunological analysis carried out in the course of this study made it possible to state that, in contrast to healthy adults, pronounced changes in the characteristics of the local immunity status of the reproductive system occur in chronic prostatitis patients.

From reproductive violence to empowerment: reconquering power in assisted reproduction - a qualitative study.

People who use medically assisted reproduction (MAR) outside the legal and/or medical framework are generally on the margins of the dominant procreative norm, making them particularly vulnerable to a wide range of reproductive violence such as legal restriction to medical care, discrimination or mistreatment. The aim of this study was to explore experiences of reproductive violence among people living in France who sought MAR either abroad or without medical assistance. Semi-structured interviews were conducted between 2022 and 2023. Almost half of the interviewees (n = 28/69) had been confron…

Development a Recombinant Protein (CrFSH) as a Reproductive Hormone for the Assisted Reproduction of Dairy Cows.

Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) stands as one of the most prevalently used reproductive hormones in the field of animal-assisted reproduction. Conventionally, pituitary FSH is sourced from the heterologous pituitary glands of pigs and sheep procured from slaughterhouses, and it typically exists in the form of crude FSH. The specific challenges inherent in FSH-based assisted reproduction drugs has significantly spurred the interest in exploring novel alternatives, aiming to reduce the reliance on these traditional sources in relevant production processes. In this study, the α- and β-FSH gene…

Comparative assisted reproductive technologies in human and veterinary medicine: implications for reproductive success.

Assisted reproductive technologies (ART) have been widely and successfully used in both humans and livestock. However, only in humans and cattle have in vitro fertilization (IVF), in vitro embryo culture (IVC), and embryo transfer (ET) developed into large commercial sectors. The major differences between human and animal ART include the rationale of the treatment and the patient groups. While ART is used to treat infertility in humans, veterinary ART aims to maximize genetic gain and minimize generation intervals. Human ART is filled with societal, cultural, and emotional challenges, whereas

Factors Influencing Reproductive Performance in Austrian Sow Farms Challenged by Reproductive Disorders.

Many piglet-producing farms are facing poor reproductive performance, yet their characteristics remain poorly understood. This study aimed to identify factors contributing to reproductive disorders based on information easily identifiable through an oral survey. Therefore, forty Austrian piglet producing farms (35-2000 sows) were surveyed using a questionnaire mainly addressing management, treatment and prophylaxis. Five key performance indicators (KPIs) were defined to assess farm productivity: farrowing rate, return-to-estrus rate, abortion rate, total piglets born per litter, and piglets we

Gonadal development of adultoid reproductive in subterranean termites indicates strong reproductive potential.

The fair allocation of reproductive resources between population growth and outward dispersal plays a crucial role in determining competitive advantage and ecological success of organisms within their environment. Termite colonies demonstrate flexibility in allocating their reproductive resources through wing polymorphism: with alates possessing fully developed wings for dispersal to propagate the colony's genetic material, while adultoids have floppy wings, serving a secondary reproductive to ensure stability and development within the natal colony. However, the extent of reproductive potenti

Impact of cesarean scar defect on reproductive outcomes after assisted reproductive technology.

In the last twenty years, the cesarean section rate has been rising in China, leading to an increased prevalence of cesarean scar defect (CSD) and secondary infertility. CSD decreases receptivity of endometrium, induces adenomyosis and endometriosis, disrupts uterine micro-environment and causes difficulties in embryo transplant operation as well as has further pregnancy complications. For women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART), CSD significantly reduces live birth rate, clinical pregnancy rate and embryo implantation rate. CSD can be effectively treated by hysteroscopic surge

The impact of reproductive hormones on T cell immunity; normal and assisted reproductive cycles.

During pregnancy, a unique immune milieu is established systemically and locally at the maternal-fetal interface. While preparing for embryonic implantation, endometrial effectors significantly change their proportions and function, which are synchronized with hormonal changes. During assisted reproductive technology cycles, various cytokines, chemokines, and immune factors dynamically change with the altered receptor expressions on the immune effectors. Thus, the hormonal regulation of immune effectors is critical to maintaining the immune milieu. In this review, hormonal effects on T cell su

Reproductive Surgery in Females with Obesity: Reproductive Consequences of Obesity and Applications for Surgical Care.

Obesity is the most common medical problem in women of reproductive age. The surgical applications for this population, many of who are interested in current or future fertility, are critical to safe and effective evaluation and management of issues that impact the reproductive system. As rates of obesity continue to rise worldwide, it is projected that one in two individuals will have obesity by 2030 leading to increasing numbers of individuals affected by a disease process that has implications for their gynecologic surgical care, fertility-related assessment, and infertility treatment.
