Bidirectional perspectives on internet-related family communication: Development and validation of the parent-child internet communication scale (PCICS) and associations with problematic internet use.

This study developed and validated the Parent-Child Internet Communication Scale (PCICS), a dyadic measure assessing internet-related communication between parents and adolescents. Drawing on parental mediation theory (Livingstone & Helsper, 2008) and Schaefer's (1965) two-dimensional model of parent-child relationships (acceptance-rejection; psychological autonomy-control), items were generated to capture whether internet-related concerns can be openly shared and constructively discussed within the family. Existing measures have focused mainly on mediation behaviors or general communication q

Co-designing PROFESS: a community health worker support framework to strengthen engagement in TB and HIV care in Madagascar.

Community health workers (CHWs) are central to primary health care in low- and middle-income countries, yet their engagement is often uneven across health domains. In Madagascar, approximately 50,720 CHWs serving on a voluntary, unsalaried basis link communities to the formal health system, but only a minority is actively engaged in tuberculosis (TB) or HIV service delivery despite substantial disease burden. This community case study describes a two-stage initiative by a consortium of government disease programmes, an NGO, and an academic partner to strengthen CHW engagement in TB and HIV car

[Ecological restoration path of territorial space in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, China].

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is one of China's largest urban agglomera-tions in terms of economic aggregate. However, accelerated urbanization have led to a series of ecological problems, including ecosystem fragmentation and imbalances in ecosystem functions. The precise identification and optimization of key ecological restoration areas are critical pathways for conducting territorial spatial ecological restoration, holding significant value for safeguarding the ecological security of the GBA. We integrated the MSPA-InVEST model with circuit theory to assess habitat q

Ebola virus disease in the modern era: pathogenesis, therapeutic advances, vaccine strategies, and global health preparedness.

Ebola virus disease (EVD) remains one of the most severe and complex viral hemorrhagic fevers confronting global public health systems. Since its first recognized emergence in 1976, recurrent outbreaks caused primarily by Zaire ebolavirus have demonstrated the extraordinary epidemic potential of filoviruses, particularly in regions with fragile healthcare infrastructure. The unprecedented West African epidemic of 2013-2016 fundamentally altered scientific understanding of Ebola virus transmission, pathogenesis, clinical progression, and outbreak management. Subsequent outbreaks in the Democrat

Intelligence and language outcomes in school-aged children who are HIV-exposed, uninfected: the role of sex, perinatal risk factors, and socioeconomic status.

BACKGROUND: Children who are HIV-exposed uninfected (CHEU) are at increased risk for neurodevelopmental impairments. Most studies report on neurodevelopmental outcomes in the first 2 years of life, with limited data available for school-aged CHEU. This interim study examined the intellectual and language outcomes in school-aged CHEU compared to children who are HIV-unexposed uninfected (CHUU). SETTING: CHEU and CHUU aged 6-10 years recruited at two sites in Ontario, Canada. METHODS: Intellectual and language abilities were measured using the WISC-V and CELF-5. Generalized linear models inves

Global expansion of lumpy skin disease: transmission trends, economic consequences, and preventive measures.

Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is an emerging transboundary poxviral infection affecting cattle and buffaloes, caused by the Lumpy Skin Disease Virus (LSDV), a member of the Capripoxvirus genus. Characterized by fever, nodular dermatitis, lymphadenopathy, and production loss, the disease has evolved from a regionally confined threat in Africa to a global epizootic. While mortality remains below 5%, morbidity can reach 100% in affected herds, leading to severe economic disruption in livestock-dependent economies. Between 2005 and 2020, over 41,000 outbreaks were reported globally, nearly 30,000 in Af

Contrasting the impact and cost-effectiveness of successive intervention strategies in response to Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 2018-2020.

INTRODUCTION: The 10th outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in 2018-2020 was the largest in DRC's history and the second largest worldwide. Different strategic response plans (SRPs) were implemented, and the outbreak was eventually stopped after a large scale-up of operations with the SRP 4, which benefited from all public health measures deployed during SRPs 1-3, upon which it developed a more holistic approach including community engagement, logistics and security. METHODS: We used modelling to characterise EVD transmission and assess the epide

Would men who have sex with men support less frequent screening for asymptomatic chlamydia and gonorrhoea to improve antibiotic stewardship? A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Men who have sex with men (MSM) taking pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) are recommended to have screening for asymptomatic chlamydia and gonorrhoea every 3months with high rates of asymptomatic chlamydia and gonorrhoea detected. However, there is little evidence about the effectiveness of this screening interval and there is increasing concern about antibiotic consumption and its impact on antimicrobial resistance. There have been calls to reconsider this frequent screening for chlamydia and gonorrhoea. We conducted interviews with MSM to assess their attitudes to 3-monthly chlamydi

Reproductive ecology of the black rat (Rattus rattus) in Madagascar: the influence of density-dependent and -independent effects.

The black rat (Rattus rattus) poses a severe threat to food security and public health in Madagascar, where it is a major cause of pre- and post-harvest crop losses and an important reservoir for many zoonotic diseases, including plague. Elsewhere, ecologically based rodent management (EBRM) strategies have been developed using ecological information to inform decisions on where and when to target control. EBRM could deliver improved health and well-being outcomes in Madagascar if adapted to the local ecological context. Using data collected from removal studies, we explored spatio-temporal pa

The local and global mental health effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This paper investigates the mental health effects of the local and global level Covid-19 pandemic among the UK population. To identify the effect, we use a high-quality dataset and an original strategy where we match the previous day's confirmed pandemic cases to a four-month panel of individual mental health information observed during the interview next day. The approach suggested in this paper aims to identify the average mental health effect on the overall population for the first and second waves of the pandemic. Using a linear fixed-effects model specification, we report robust findings
