Maxillary sinus floor elevation via crestal approach: the evolution of the hydraulic pressure technique.

The current study describes an innovative protocol for the surgical maxillary sinus augmentation via a crestal approach that uses hydraulic pressure to lift the Schneiderian membrane and simultaneously fill the subantral space with a biomaterial for bone regeneration (nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite in aqueous solution). The technique in question combines the advantages of large amounts of grafted biomaterial with reduced trauma, high precision, and predictability.

Melolabial interpolated island flap for reconstruction of an anterior oronasal fistula after horseshoe Le Fort I osteotomy with iliac bone grafts interposition - A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Horseshoe Le Fort I osteotomy (HLFO) in combination with iliac bone grafts interposition is an established and very effective procedure for reconstructing the severely atrophic maxilla. However potential complications connected to this method, such as oronasal fistula (ONF), have not been described in the literature to date. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a female patient with severe atrophy of the edentulous maxillary alveolar ridge with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Initially, a sinus floor augmentation was performed, followed by a failed placement of dental implants. After…

Radiological sinus lift: a new minimally invasive CT-guided procedure for maxillary sinus floor elevation in implant dentistry.

PURPOSE: Implant therapy has become an excellent treatment modality as its inception into the modern era of dentistry. However, when patients present with advanced atrophy of the maxillary alveolar ridge, the procedure of choice to restore the anatomic bone deficiency is surgical maxillary sinus floor elevation or sinus lift. The purpose of this study was to describe the CT guided sinus lift technique and to illustrate the minimally invasive aspect of this new radiological procedure called radiological sinus lift. MATERIAL AND METHODS: For this prospective study, 17 cadaver heads which met ou

Prevalence of sinus augmentation associated with maxillary posterior implants.

Pneumatization of the maxillary sinus limits the quantity of alveolar bone available for implant placement and may result in a lack of primary stability and difficulty in achieving osseointegration. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively analyze a group of patients who had implants placed in the posterior maxilla, calculate the prevalence of sinus augmentation, and identify factors related to sinus augmentation. With institutional review board approval, dental records from a population of patients who had implants placed in the maxillary posterior region between January 2000 and Dece

The hemodynamic effects of compliance, bulging, and curvature in a saphenous vein coronary artery bypass graft model.

The development of Intimal Hyperplasia (IH) in saphenous vein coronary artery bypass grafts (SV-CABG) is responsible for the short-term patency of these grafts. Previous studies of SV-CABG models were performed on rigid anastomotic vessels. However, the effects of compliance, bulging and curvature at the anastomosis on the general hemodynamic field, due to compliance and geometric mismatch between the vein and the artery have not been evaluated. We studied axial and transverse velocities by Laser Doppler Velocimetry on a compliant, in vitro, anatomical model of an end-to-side saphenous vein gr

A Novel Robot-Assisted Access in Endodontic Microsurgery Combined with Sinus Floor Elevation for Maxillary First Molar.

Endodontic microsurgery (EMS) is an important treatment option for endodontic disease when the nonsurgical endodontic treatment fails. However, EMS for maxillary molars often presents a clinical challenge due to the root apex close to the maxillary sinus floor, which may increase the risk of sinus membrane perforation. Furthermore, the depth between the apex of the palatal root and the buccal cortical plate significantly impacts EMS precision for restricting visualization and instrument access. This case report is the first to use an autonomous robotic system for minimally invasive EMS on a ma

Use of autogenous bone and beta-tricalcium phosphate in maxillary sinus lifting: a prospective, randomized, volumetric computed tomography study.

The correction of bone defects can be performed using autogenous or alloplastic materials, such as beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP). This study compared the changes in bone volume (CBV) after maxillary sinus lifting using autogenous bone (n = 12), autogenous bone associated with β-TCP 1:1 (ChronOS; DePuy Synthes, Paoli, CA, USA) (n = 9), and β-TCP alone (n = 11) as grafting material, by means of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). CBV was evaluated by comparing CBCT scans obtained in the immediate postoperative period (5-7 days) and at 6 months postoperative in each group using OsiriX softw
