The purpose of this study was to determine the prenatal psychosocial needs of a group of women enrolled in TennCare, a Medicaid managed care program designed to cover all otherwise uninsured people in Tennessee, and compare them with privately insured women. Abortion is taboo in Pakistani society, and it is stigmatised throughout the country, regardless of legal permission. Despite the burdens imposed by social norms of pronatalism and motherhood, women do exercise agency to have abortions. BACKGROUND: There are a multitude of factors that influence smoking status, and minors from the social protection system are a vulnerable category in terms of smoking.
METHODS: The objective of this research was to assess the degree of smoking dependence and to identify potential predictors of smoking status in foster care teenagers. This article presents data on the family and social environments of 501 children enrolled in public sponsored pre-K in 5 states and tests the relation of these resources to child competence. This study reports on the development of a revised version of the Alcohol Evaluation Instrument (ALCEVAL-R). Items in the four major areas of the ALCEVAL-R were factor analyzed separately and relationships among factors were examined. Results suggest that the ALCEVAL-R measures clinically meaningful aspects of the alcoholic patient's occupational and social status, and reveals important dimensions of alcohol consumption and of the personal and social consequences of alcohol abuse.
