Multi-view ensemble learning for EEG-based detection of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Psychiatric disorders pose a critical challenge in modern healthcare due to their high prevalence, complex symptomatology, and reliance on subjective diagnostic procedures. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), in particular, is a chronic and debilitating condition that significantly impairs daily functioning, yet remains difficult to diagnose accurately and objectively. To address this challenge, we propose a novel frequency-aware multi-view ensemble learning framework for EEG-based OCD classification. The method systematically partitions EEG features into frequency-specific views (delta, thet

Machine Learning in Postcardiotomy Shock: Implications for Temporary Mechanical Circulatory Support.

Postcardiotomy shock (PCS) is a distinct form of cardiogenic shock that occurs after cardiac surgery and necessitates rapid decisions regarding temporary mechanical circulatory support (tMCS), including escalation, device configuration, and weaning. Machine learning (ML) has emerged as a strategy to integrate high-dimensional perioperative data and augment clinical decision-making beyond traditional risk scores. This narrative expert review evaluates ML applications across the PCS continuum, including early risk recognition and phenotyping, tMCS initiation, management and liberation, and progn

A RARE CLINICAL CASE OF A GIANT LIPOMA OF THE RIGHT THIGH.

INTRODUCTION: Lipoma is a benign tumor of adipose tissue, most often located in the subcutaneous tissue or deep soft tissues. It is usually solitary, slow-growing, and asymptomatic. Giant lipomas (≥10 cm or ≥1 kg) are rare and may cause compression of blood vessels and nerves, restricted mobility, and cosmetic deformity. Genetic predisposition is associated with mutations in genes such as High Mobility Group AT-hook 2 (HMGA2) and Domain-Containing Preferred Translocation Partner in Lipoma (LPP). Diagnosis is based on clinical examination and imaging, including ultrasonography, CT, and, in diag

Primary Extra-Pleura Leiomyoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Leiomyomas are a common type of benign soft tissue tumor arising from smooth muscle, most often occurring within females' genitourinary and gastrointestinal tract. However, primary leiomyomas of the chest wall residing in the extra-pleural space are an extremely rare subset of leiomyomatous lesion presentation. We present a case of a fifty-two-year-old male who initially presented complaining of dyspnea worsening with exertion. Computed tomography imaging was performed showing an extra-pleural mass residing under the left sixth rib. Subsequent core needle biopsy and immunohistochemical stainin

Multiple sites of soft-tissue metastases secondary to lung cancer: A case report.

RATIONALE: The prognosis of lung cancer is dismal, which has resulted in lung carcinoma being one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Non-small cell lung cancer accounts for approximately 80% of all types of lung carcinoma. The skeletal system and central nervous system are the most common distal metastatic sites in patients with lung cancer, while cutaneous and soft tissues metastasis is rare. PATIENT CONCERNS: We report a case of concomitant metastasis in the nasal tip and suspected buttocks metastasis secondary to lung cancer, who complained of repeated cough and whit

Pelvic retroperitoneal pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumor (PHAT) of soft tissue: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumor (PHAT) is a rare soft tissue tumor of low malignant potential, which most often arises in the lower extremities. Lesions occurred in other anatomic locations have been rarely reported. Moreover, their imaging features have not been well discussed. Here we report a case of PHAT arising primarily in the pelvic retroperitoneum. To our knowledge, this is the first radiological description for retroperitoneum PHAT. CASE PRESENTATION: A 26-year-old female was referred to our hospital for evaluation of a pelvic mass incidentally noted in routine

Surgical treatment of intradiploic epidermoid cyst treated as depression.

INTRODUCTION: Extradural intradiploic epidermoid cysts are rare, representing less than 0.25% of all primary intracranial tumors. They can be neurologically silent and can only present psychiatric symptoms like depression, cognitive or personality changes. CASE OUTLINE: A 68-year-old male with two year long history of depressive mood, lack of motivation, helplessness, hopelessness and poor response to antidepressive drug therapy was described. CT scan showed a well-defined mass in the parietal scalp with destruction of the scull. He underwent intracranial tumor resection. Surgical resection a

Unusual case of soft palate hairy polyp causing airway obstruction and review of the literature.

Hairy polyps are rare benign tumors that are derived from 2 germ layers: ectoderm and mesoderm. Although location in the head and neck area is rare, the soft palate as the site of origin is even more unusual. The clinical presentation depends on the polyp's location and size. These masses can commonly cause respiratory and feeding difficulties. We present a case of a soft palate hairy polyp causing respiratory and feeding difficulties in a 6-month-old female infant and review the literature.

Soft tissue echinococcosis: a report of two cases and review of the literature.

Echinococcosis (hydatid cyst disease) is a zoonotic infection caused by the parasitic tapeworm Echinococcus. The larval stage of this parasite can implant in many organs of the body, most commonly the liver, and create internal budding cystic masses. Echinococcal cysts also can implant in soft tissues; however, a review of the literature revealed no published case with the patient initially presenting with a soft tissue mass. Two such cases are reported in the current study. Physicians who evaluate soft tissue masses, particularly in patients from Echinococcus-endemic areas, need to include ec

[Compression neuropathy of the median nerve at the wrist joint caused by chondroma].

The case is reported of a 75-year old patient with diabetes, who suffered from a typical carpal tunnel syndrome, which was diagnosed by a neurologist. On the X-rays of hand and wrist there were no pathological findings. A small, clinically almost inapparent induration at the palmar and radial side of the wrist was found. Ultrasonography and CT-scan showed a tumor with compression of the median nerve. At operation the authors excised a tumor which on histological investigation was compatible with a soft tissue chondroma. Full recovery followed local excision with decompression of the median ner

[An unusual cause of sciatica: soft tissue desmoid tumor. Apropos of 2 cases].

The authors report 2 cases of sciatica resulting from nervous compression by a desmoid tumour in women aged 33 and 27 years. In each case, careful exeresis did not prevent recurrence as shown by tomodensitometry. Eight other well-documented cases were found in the literature. The desmoid tumour penetrates the buttock and thigh muscles and presses the sciatic nerve. The patients often suffer from previous and persistent sciatica which can combine with hip restriction. The responsible tumour made up of abundant bundles of collagenous fibers, a small number of fusiform cells without mitosis or at

Exact lattice summations for Lennard-Jones potentials coupled to a three-body Axilrod-Teller-Muto term applied to cuboidal phase transitions.

Three-body interactions have long been conjectured to play a crucial role in the stability of matter. However, rigorous studies have been scarce due to the computational challenge of evaluating small energy differences in high-dimensional lattice sums. This work provides a rigorous analysis of Bain-type cuboidal lattice transformations, which connect the face-centered cubic (fcc), mean-centered cubic (mcc), body-centered cubic (bcc), and axially centered cubic (acc) lattices. Our study incorporates a general (n, m) Lennard-Jones (LJ) two-body potential and a long-range repulsive Axilrod-Teller

Enhancing Early Detection of Cognitive Decline in the Elderly: A Comparative Study Utilizing Large Language Models in Clinical Notes.

BACKGROUND: Large language models (LLMs) have shown promising performance in various healthcare domains, but their effectiveness in identifying specific clinical conditions in real medical records is less explored. This study evaluates LLMs for detecting signs of cognitive decline in real electronic health record (EHR) clinical notes, comparing their error profiles with traditional models. The insights gained will inform strategies for performance enhancement. METHODS: This study, conducted at Mass General Brigham in Boston, MA, analyzed clinical notes from the four years prior to a 2019 diag

Imaging findings of cryptococcal infection of the thoracic spine.

Cryptococcosis with thoracic spine involvement is extremely rare, with most cases occurring in immunosuppressed patients. We report a case of cryptococcosis of the thoracic vertebrae confirmed by histopathology. The immunocompetence of the patient is a most interesting feature of this case. Laboratory investigations were normal, but the erythrocyte sedimentation rate was raised. A computed tomography scan showed an eccentric lytic lesion with a clear boundary at T2-T3. Magnetic resonance imaging showed the endplates of the T2 and T3 vertebral bodies to be involved, but without significant loss

SPECT/CT in musculoskeletal infections.

This article provides a brief overview of the current state of hybrid single-photon emission computed tomography/computer tomography (SPECT/CT) imaging in musculoskeletal infections. SPECT/CT imaging, compared with conventional planar study and SPECT alone, provides improved anatomic localization of infection and more accurate delineation of the extent of infection. This article emphasizes three clinical aspects where SPECT/CT is found to be most useful: differentiating between soft tissue and bone infections, assessing suspected infected sites with underlying structural bone alterations, and

Mastoid pneumocele with secondary pneumatocele causing external auditory canal obstruction and the influence of forced nose blowing.

We present a case involving a 36-year-old man who had a feeling that his right ear was obstructed and who had associated conductive hearing loss that was exacerbated by nose blowing. On otoscopy, a soft-tissue swelling was seen in the posterosuperior aspect of the right external auditory canal. Computed tomography revealed the presence of hyperaerated mastoid air cells and an air-containing cavity connected with the enlarged mastoid air cells, narrowing the external auditory canal. A radiographic diagnosis of a mastoid pneumocele with secondary pneumatocele was made. A novel hypothesis is pres

[Neurological disorders in patients with metastases of breast cancer to the cranial bones].

The paper presents data on 52 cases of breast cancer disseminated into cranial vault bones (2 into the orbit). Metastases into the brain (11) and meninges (6) were detected in 17 cases with the aid of computed tomography of the brain and examination of cerebrospinal fluid. The latter cases were not included into the study group. Metastases into cranial bones were identified by craniography and scanning of the skeleton. Half the patients (18 out of 35) revealed the following neurologic syndromes which were determined by the site of metastases into cranial vault bones and tumor growth pattern (i
