BACKGROUND: This study was planned to collect data about causes, prevalence and responses to work-related musculoskeletal disorders reported by physiotherapists employed in Izmir, Turkey.
METHOD: A two-page survey with closed ended questions was used as the data collected method. To understand the resistance mechanisms present in 75 isolates of Salmonella typhimurium derived from clinical infections in Turkey, antimicrobial resistance patterns and associated plasmids were investigated. Among the 22 strains that produced extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL), 20 were resistant to aminoglycosides and 12 to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) has made a revolution in the treatment of urolithiasis. Recent reports suggesting that stone features for SWL have changed during the last years have forced us to compare our initial and last 250 patients treated at our ESWL unit in terms of stone and patient characteristics. Chlamydia psittaci was isolated as the sole pathogenic agent from a severe outbreak of respiratory disease in a commercial broiler turkey farm in the Netherlands. The mortality rate in the flocks was 65%. Clinical signs included conjunctivitis, swelling of the sinus infraorbitalis and sneezing. Serum insulin concentration and pancreatic insulin content were determined for turkey embryos incubated in ovo and in long-term shell-less culture (ex ovo). Insulin was undetectable (less than 10 pg) in serum from 87% of the ex ovo embryos compared with their in ovo counterparts. This was evident at all incubation ages, although insulin was detectable in more of the ex ovo embryos on Day 24.
