Benjamin Franklin's medical history shows that he suffered from repeated attacks of gout and a large bladder stone. These conditions caused him considerable pain, markedly decreased his mobility, and likely contributed in indirect ways to his decline and eventual death from a pulmonary disorder. OBJECTIVE: to study the particularities of the bladder lithiasis in our countries. This was a retrospective study of 94 cases (62 men and 32 women) of bladder lithiasis over a period of 13 years. The lithogenic factors; clinic, paraclinic and therapeutic aspects have been studied. A discussion on possible application of endoscopic surgery for the treatment of chronic prostatitis and its complications is presented. Potentials and limitations of a new, facultative non-tomographic Fast-Imaging sequence "RARE-MR-Urography" are presented. Its results in urological diseases are discussed on the basis of a pilot study of 35 patients. The images (4 s-32 s acquisition time) are extremely T2-weighted and display unbounded free water (urine). They reveal valuable information, not available with ultrasound or conventional radiology without application of contrast agents in the presence of urine retention. S/N problems reduce the accuracy of this method if the urinary tract contains only small amounts of urine.

Urothelial tumours of the upper urinary tract are rare, but their incidence increases in subjects suffering from phenacetin nephropathy, Balkan nephropathy and infected pyelic calculi. In order to act on the urothelium through the urinary way, a cancerigenic substance must (1) be eliminated with the urine; (2) be absorbed by the urothelium; (3) remain in the tissue for a certain length of time. Gray scale transrectal ultrasonography has proved to be a valuable adjunct in the evaluation of patients with tumors of the prostate and bladder. Its application in patients with prostatic disease is in the detection of early asymptomatic tumors, in the accurate staging of local disease and in the following of patients after the institution of specific treatment. Although it is not being used for the detection of bladder tumors the procedure is a reliable means to evaluate the degree of tumor invasion so that proper therapy can be instituted.

OBJECTIVE: To report on biochemical recurrence (BCR) and major complications in patients with prior prostate resection that underwent cryosurgery (CS) for prostate cancer.
METHODS: The Columbia University Urologic Oncology database identified patients that underwent CS after resection. Patient demographics, surgical details, prostate volume, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, biopsy results, major complications, and BCR were recorded.

OBJECTIVES: We set out to determine the prevalence of unsuspected findings from CT urography (CTU) performed for haematuria and to evaluate the economic implications associated with the subsequent management of these findings.
METHODS: We analysed the results of 778 consecutive CTU scans performed in a haematuria clinic between 2008 and 2010. We excluded cases where diagnosis of an abnormality had been made prior to CTU.
