Antigen detection in the urine and serum may be useful in the diagnosis of suspected meningococcal disease, especially after previous antibiotic treatment. Current test card procedures using commercial agglutination kits are often too insensitive to contribute to diagnosis. Infectious mononucleosis complicated by acute myopericarditis was finally diagnosed in a 17-year-old boy who presented with sore throat and severe left-sided chest pain. A mononucleosis spot test and heterophil agglutination test turned strongly positive only on the sixth hospital day. The natural course of infectious mononucleosis complicated by myopericarditis appears to be benign.

We retrospectively analyzed the Venereal Disease Research Laboratory test, Treponema pallidum particle agglutination test, and toluidine red unheated serum test (TRUST) in 41 cases of HIV-negative neurosyphilis and 34 non-neurologic syphilitic patient and found that serum-TRUST titers could be the indication of lumbar puncture in syphilitic patients and a reactive cerebrospinal fluid-TRUST is considered diagnostic to neurosyphilis.
