Intra- and, respectively, periarticular osteoid osteoma are accompanied by sympathical arthritis which itself can irreversibly destroy the cartilage of the joint. In contrast to other locations, intra- and periarticular osteoid osteoma are rare. Reactive and symptomatic accompanying arthritis may lead to irreversible cartilage destruction especially in chronic courses. Therefore early diagnosis and therapy is crucial. We present a case report and discuss these rare tumors by reviewing the literature.

BACKGROUND: Immune-related adverse events, notably arthritis (irAE-arthritis), frequently occur in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhi … ere arthritis. Various rheumatic syndromes have been reported, such as arthralgia, mono-/oligo-/polyarthritis, reactive and psoriatic arthritis, RS3PE, tenosynovitis. The onset of irAE-arthritis is attributed to T cell dysregulation, B cell activation with autoantibody production, cytokine - mediated inflammation, and impaired immune tolerance due to Treg dysfunction …

Fibroblast-like synoviocytes in rheumatoid arthritis (RA-FLSs) play a key role in cartilage destruction. We previously found that resveratrol (Res) could promote FLSs apoptosis in adjuvant arthritis rats, but the underlying mechanism was unclear. According to our latest study, Res can suppress the expression of mitochondrial superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) and RA-FLSs proliferation. It was associated with elevated mitochondrial reactive oxygen species levels. Therefore, we hypothesized that Res-mediated RA-FLSs apoptosis might occur via the MnSOD- mitochondrial reactive oxygen species pathway. RA

Inflammation as an adaptive response underlies a wide variety of physiological and pathological processes. The progression of inflammation is closely intertwined with various bioactive molecules. To dissect the biological mechanisms and physiopathological functions of these molecules, exploitation of versatile detection mean is of great importance. Fluorescence imaging technique has been widely employed to track bioactive species in living systems. As a result, many small-molecule fluorescent probes for bioactive species in inflammatory disease have been developed. However, this interesting an

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease that is primarily manifested as synovitis and polyarticular opacity and typically leads to serious joint damage and irreversible disability, thus adversely affecting locomotion ability and life quality. Consequently, good prognosis heavily relies on the early diagnosis and effective therapeutic monitoring of RA. Activatable fluorescent probes play vital roles in the detection and imaging of biomarkers for disease diagnosis and in vivo imaging. Herein, we review the fluorescent probes developed for the detection and imaging of RA biomar

Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA) is a severe rheumatic disease in children. It is a subgroup of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA; MIM #604302), which is the most common rheumatic disease in children. The diagnosis of SJIA often comes with a significant delay, and the classification between autoinflammatory and autoimmune disease is still discussed. In this study, we analyzed the immunological responses of patients with SJIA, using human proteome arrays presenting immobilized recombinantly expressed human proteins, to analyze the involvement of autoantibodies in SJIA. Results fro

Group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus can cause several postinfectious, nonsuppurative immune- mediated diseases including acute rheumatic fever, poststreptococcal reactive arthritis, pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders, and poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis. Except for sporadic outbreaks, poststreptococcal autoimmune syndromes occur most commonly in sub-Saharan Africa, India, Australia, and New Zealand. Children younger than three years are rarely affected by group A streptococcus pharyngitis or rheumatic fever, and usually do not require testing. Rheumatic fever is a rare condi

BACKGROUND: Pediatric septic arthritis is a surgical emergency and timely diagnosis prevents serious complications. To differentiate between septic hip and transient synovitis, the predictive value of four original Kocher criteria (fever, inability to bear weight, elevated serum white blood cell count, and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate) plus Caird's addition of elevated C-reactive protein have been studied, termed the modified Kocher criteria. These criteria have not been tested extensively on septic knee. This study tested the utility of the modified Kocher criteria in predicting se

Using T-cell clones derived from patients with Chlamydia trachomatis (CT)-induced reactive arthritis, we identified target antigens and mapped the peptide epitopes that were recognized. Several epitopes were conserved in homologous proteins of Chlamydia pneumoniae (CPN), and it was shown that these epitopes were generated following processing of the CPN proteins or CPN elementary bodies, i.e. the T-cell clones were indeed CT and CPN cross-reactive. Given that CPN infection is frequent, we wished to determine whether prior infection with CPN could have an effect on the response to subsequent in

This case describes a rare early-onset presentation in a 15-month-old girl, who first developed guttate psoriatic lesions followed by knee arthritis confirmed by ultrasound. The patient had a strong family history of autoimmune diseases. Immunological testing, including antinuclear antibodies, was negative, but with positive non-specific inflammatory markers, such as C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, offering a clue about an inflammatory process causing this presentation. The diagnosis of juvenile psoriatic arthritis was made according to the International League of Associ

Psoriatic arthritis is a chronic destructive joint disease. About 40% of psoriatic arthritis patients are positive for human lymphocyte antigens (HLA)-B27. This study investigated the relationship between HLA-B27 and clinical manifestations and prognosis in psoriatic arthritis patients. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data were analyzed from 41 psoriatic arthritis patients with regular follow-ups. The mean percentage of HLA-B27 in psoriatic arthritis was about 39%. Positive HLA-B27 was associated with an increased risk of development of sacroillitis (relative risk 8.75; p<0.01) but not p

Lyme borreliosis (Lyme disease) is the most prevalent tick-borne disease caused by spirochaetes of the Borrelia species complex. Arthritis is one of the common manifestations of B. burgdorferi infection. The pathomechanism of articular changes in Lyme arthritis has not yet been elucidated. Histopathological studies of synovia and immunological changes are similar to rheumatoid arthritis. In the early stage of inflammation B. burgdorferi interact with polynuclear granulocytes and epithelial cells, triggering production of reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation products and other inflammato

Spondyloarthritides (also known as spondyloarthropathies) are a group of rheumatic diseases that consists of diversified entities, i.e. ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, arthritis in the course of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and juvenile spondyloarthropathies. In the diagnostics of spondyloarthritides, plain radiography has played a crucial role for years due to its undisputed ability to show distinctive bony changes. Yet as those diseases often manifest themselves by soft tissue pathology and bone marrow inflammation, ultrasonography and magnetic res

Using the ELISA technique, antibodies against two different basement proteins, laminin and nidogen (ALNA), were determined in 226 children suffering from one of 37 different inflammatory or infectious diseases. These included 80 patients with streptococcal infection and 40 with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Forty-eight percent of the streptococcus-infected patients (or 75% of those in the acute phase) and 60% of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis patients had significantly elevated ALNA levels compared with healthy controls. Interestingly 10 adult rheumatoid arthritis patients displayed normal ALN
