Differences in leaf characteristics between ozone-sensitive and ozone-tolerant hybrid aspen (Populus tremula x Populus tremuloides) clones.

The authors analyzed a suite of leaf characteristics that might help to explain the difference between ozone-sensitive and ozone-tolerant hy … effect on phenolic concentration, but elevated ozone concentration increased the concentrations of chlorogenic acid and (+)-catechin. This study suggests that condensed tannins and catechin, but not salicylates or flavonol glycosides, play a role in the ozone tolerance of hybrid aspen.

Integrative analysis of potential diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets for glomerulus-associated diabetic nephropathy based on cellular senescence.

INTRODUCTION: Diabetic nephropathy (DN), distinguished by detrimental changes in the renal glomeruli, is regarded as the leading cause of de … ate the identification of three signature genes, namely LOX, FOXD1 and GJA1. Molecular docking with chlorogenic acids (CGA) was further established not only to validate LOX, FOXD1 and GJA1 as diagnostic markers but also reveal their potential therapeutic effects. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: In conclusion, our findings pinpointed three diagnostic markers of glomerulus …

Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Honeysuckle Leaf Against Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Neuroinflammation on BV2 Microglia.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Neurodegenerative disorders have emerged as a major global public health concern, and the burden is predicted to incr … , in LPS-activated BV2 cells. LH impeded the activation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK). Moreover, chlorogenic acid was found in LH. CONCLUSIONS: The above findings suggest that LH water extract could improve neuroinflammation.

Fractionation of Carlina acaulis L. Root Methanolic Extract as a Promising Path towards New Formulations against Bacillus cereus and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

The root of Carlina acaulis L. has been widely used in traditional medicine for its antimicrobial properties. In this study, the fractionati … erived from CaCo2 cells, and zebrafish embryos. Further analyses revealed the presence of bioactive chlorogenic acids in the fractionated extract, especially in the ethyl acetate fraction (C). These findings support the traditional use of the root from C. acaulis and pave the way for the development of new formulations for treating bacterial infections. This was f …

Mitigating Effects of Tanacetum balsamita L. on Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD).

The metabolic syndrome and its associated co-morbidities have been recognized as predisposing risk factors for the development of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). The present study reports on the beneficial effect of the Tanacetum balsamita methanol-aqueous extract (ETB) at 150 and 300 mg/kg bw on biochemical parameters related to oxidative stress, metabolic syndrome, and liver function in rat animal models with induced MAFLD. ETB was found to be non-toxic with LD50 > 3000 mg/kg and did not affect cell viability of hepatic HEP-G2 cells in a concentration up to 800 μg/mL. The p

Bioactive compounds in coffee and their role in lowering the risk of major public health consequences: A review.

This article addresses the bioactive components in coffee aroma, their metabolism, and the mechanism of action in lowering the risk of various potential health problems. The main bioactive components involved in the perceived aroma of coffee and its related health benefits are caffeine, chlorogenic acid (CGA), trigonelline, diterpenes, and melanoids. These compounds are involved in various physiological activities. Caffeine has been shown to have anticancer properties, as well as the ability to prevent the onset and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma and to be anti-inflammatory. CGA exhib…

Solanum melongena L. Extract Protects Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells from Blue Light-Induced Phototoxicity in In Vitro and In Vivo Models.

N-retinylidene-N-retinylethanolamine (A2E) accumulation in the retina is a prominent marker of retinal degenerative diseases. Blue light exp … acellular A2E was considered the major mechanism underlying the protective effect of EPX. Moreover, chlorogenic acid isolated from EPX exerted protective effects against blue light-induced cell damage in A2E-laden ARPE-19 cells. In vivo, EPX administration in BALB/c mice reduced the fundus damage and degeneration of the retinal layer in a blue light-induced retina …

The effects of curcumin, mangiferin, resveratrol and other natural plant products on aminopeptidase B activity.

Aminopeptidase B (Ap-B) is a Zn2+-aminopeptidase of the M1 family which is implicated, in conjunction with the nardilysin endoprotease, in the generation of miniglucagon, a peptide involved in the maintenance of glucose homeostasis. Other in vivo physiological roles have been established for this vertebrate enzyme, such as the processing of Arg-extended forms of human insulin and cholecystokinin 9 and the degradation of viral epitopes in the cytoplasm. Among M1 family members, Ap-B is phylogenetically close to leukotriene A4 hydrolase (LTA4H), a bi-functional aminopeptidase also able to transf

Coffee and health: a review of recent human research.

Coffee is a complex mixture of chemicals that provides significant amounts of chlorogenic acid and caffeine. Unfiltered coffee is a significant source of cafestol and kahweol, which are diterpenes that have been implicated in the cholesterol-raising effects of coffee. The results of epidemiological research suggest that coffee consumption may help prevent several chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, Parkinson's disease and liver disease (cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma). Most prospective cohort studies have not found coffee consumption to be associated with significantl…

A Screening-Guided Biomimetic Exosome-Liposome Hybrid Nanoplatform Enables Pyroptosis-Enhanced Immune Reprogramming in Glioblastoma.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is a highly lethal brain tumor, with therapeutic efforts hampered by the restrictive blood-brain barrier (BBB) and a profoundly immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). Driven by bioinformatics analysis identifying epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and caspase-3 as key regulators of an immune-evasive pyroptosis pathway, we screened natural compounds and identified quercetin (Q) and chlorogenic acid (C) as dual-targeting agents, thereby laying a therapeutic foundation for amplifying pyroptosis in GBM treatment. The compounds were conjugated into a glutathione-res…
