In review of the case records of all cattle greater than or equal to 2 years of age admitted to the Large Animal Hospital of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine in a 3-year-period, 366 were identified as having areas of right side tympanitic resonance (ping) due to gas distention of intra-abdominal structures. The source of the ping was identified as abomasum in 137 cattle, various segments of the intestinal tract in 157 cattle, and peritoneal gas in 2 cattle. Resected hepatic tissues of 24 patients with primary intrahepatic lithiasis were examined histo-pathologically. Calcium bilirubinate stones, cellular debris and mucinous substances occupied the lumen of large dilated intrahepatic bile ducts. Numerous mucin secreting glands were seen within or around the wall of these bile ducts. Cholesterol granuloma formation is an unusual development in the advanced stage of mammary duct ectasia. Its recognition is important because it can be clinically, mammographically, and grossly confused with carcinoma. Five such cases thought clinically to be carcinoma are presented. The histologic findings in cholesterol granuloma are distinctive and consist of multiple cholesterol crystals arranged either singly or in tightly-packed arrays. Foreign body giant cells surrounding the cholesterol deposits are invariably present.

Based on retrospective analysis of 430 cases of retroperitoneal fibrosis, a classification into various etiological groups and an evaluation of the best diagnostic approach and treatment was possible. In patients presenting moderate upper urinary dilation corticosteroids alone proved to be of value in 93% of cases. Azathioprin given in combination with corticosteroids seems to be effective. Dilatation of the azygos vein is usually due to increased pressure or flow, rarely is it diopathic. Another cause is so-called continuation of the azygos in cases of absence of the hepatic segment of the inferior vena cava. The method of choice for the investigation of azygos dilatation nowadays is computer tomography. Anomalies of the inferior vena cava can be recognized in this way unequivocally by a non-invasive method. Computer tomography frequently shows important additional abnormalities (eg. situs inversus, polysplenia), since it demonstrates all organs situated in the plane of section.

Aortic root dilatation was sought by echocardiography and radiology in 500 consecutive patients referred to an echocardiography laboratory from cardiac or medical clinics and wards. The indications, investigations and techniques for treating patients with chyluria are presented. Thirty-eight patients were treated by lymphatic disconnection either at renal hilum or at lower ureter and bladder level. Pedal lymphangiography was essential to decide upon the level of operation. Results were satisfactory in the majority when chyluria was intractable.

Six patients with obstructive jaundice had computed tomography (CT) scans showing a dilated extrahepatic biliary tree in the absence of intrahepatic ductal dilatation. The onset of an haemorragic syndrome in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia led to the diagnosis of acquired von Willebrand's disease secondary to an anti-von Willebrand factor antibody. Multiple angiodysplasia were shown by an arteriography done for a ruptured femoral arterial aneuvrism. The relationship between angiodysplasia and acquired von Willebrand disease are discussed.

OBJECTIVE: To report a case of a previously unknown anomaly of the uterus in a patient suffering from primary infertility.
DESIGN: Case report.
SETTING: University Medical Center.
PATIENT(S): A woman with a tricavitated uterus.
INTERVENTION(S): During laparotomy both spherical structures and tubes were removed.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Hysterosalpingography showed nonpatent tubes and dilatation in the proximal part of the tubes. By ultrasound, two spherical-shaped structures were found with a density resembling the density of myometrium and an inner lining similar to the endometrium.

PURPOSE OF INVESTIGATION: To evaluate the consistency of preoperative and postoperative histopathological findings in postmenopausal patients with abnormal bleeding.
