Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc) bacteria are opportunistic pathogens that particularly affect people with cystic fibrosis and other immunosuppressed patients. These bacteria are also frequent contaminants of industrial products such as medicines and cosmetics, posing a risk to patients and raising public health concerns. Due to numerous outbreaks caused by contaminated products reported worldwide, the absence of Bcc in drugs has become mandatory under various codifications. Cutaneous zygomycosis is a rare but serious infection in trauma patients. We report two cases of cutaneous zygomycosis caused by Mycocladus corymbifer (formerly Absidia corymbifera) which were probably the result of soil contamination of wounds of the patient's lower extremities. A pilot trial of efficacy of the drugs lisobact and stomatidin in local treatment of acute pharyngitis and combined therapy of tonsillitis and paratonsillar abscess included 82 patients with tonsillitis (n=30), paratonsillar abscess (n=30) and acute pharyngitis (n=22) aged 15-72 years. Effectiveness of the treatment was assessed by changes in clinical symptoms, pharyngoscopic picture and results of bacteriological studies. In a 2-year retrospective study, the database of the microbiology laboratory of the Imam Khomeini Hospital was reviewed to identify patients who had nosocomial bacteraemia between 1 May 1999 and 31 May 2001 and identify the pathogen responsible and its resisitance to antibiotics. Sporotrichosis is a deep fungal disease caused by a dimorphic fungus, Sporothrix schenckii. It occurs more frequently in the tropical and subtropical areas and is mainly characterized by nodular lesions of cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues and adjacent lymphatics that suppurate and ulcerate.
