Paediatric lateral condyle fractures of the distal humerus are common but a concomitant elbow dislocation is rare. Typically, paediatric orthopaedic surgeons will treat lateral condyle fractures with pin or metaphyseal single-screw fixation and supplementary immobilisation for several weeks. These techniques sacrifice the early stability and mobilisation necessary to avoid stiffness after a complex elbow fracture-dislocation. We present an 11-year-old boy who sustained a traumatic posterolateral elbow dislocation with lateral condyle and coronoid fractures. Due to advanced skeletal age, both p

The primary aim of this study is to compare the preoperative risk factors and postoperative outcomes between Charcot neuroarthropathy patients with dislocation versus purely fracture pattern breakdown. The secondary aim is to compare the same factors between Charcot neuroarthropathy patients with dislocation versus fracture-dislocation pattern breakdown. A total of 55 patients with forefoot, midfoot, or hindfoot Charcot Neuroarthopathy were assessed at a mean follow up of 2.99 years. Bivariate analysis compared preoperative risk factors and postoperative outcomes, and segmented multivariable r

INTRODUCTION: Isolated anterior column and anterior wall fractures are a relatively rare subgroup of acetabular fractures. They represent 6,3% of all acetabular fractures. Surgical treatment is indicated for fractures with displacement more than 5 mm and when incongruence of the articular surface and/or instability of the joint is evident, in order to allow early mobilization and prevent further complications, such as posttraumatic hip arthritis. Open reduction and internal fixation is the usual standard of care. Closed reduction and percutaneous fixation can be performed in minimally displace

BACKGROUND: We investigated the causes of failure of the Allis manoeuvre for posterior hip dislocations with an associated Pipkin type I femoral head fractures. The effectiveness of a modified Allis manoeuvre was also evaluated.
METHODS: From January 2013 to December 2016, we enrolled five patients with a posterior hip dislocation associated by a Pipkin type I femoral head fracture who were treated initially with the Allis manoeuvre that subsequently failed. Radiographic evaluations were performed to determine the cause of failure, and then a modified Allis manoeuvre was performed. During thi

The occurrence of axillary artery injury following proximal humerus fracture dislocation in elderly patient with low velocity fall is uncommon. The patient could have diverse clinical presentations in spite of intact peripheral pulses. We report the case of an 85-year-old lady who presented to our emergency department with greater tuberosity fracture of the humerus with dislocation of the right shoulder. After closed manipulative reduction of the dislocation, it was observed that the patient had brachial plexus palsy with intact radial pulse. An expanding swelling and bruise around the shoulde…

Posterior dislocation of hip is commonly associated with acetabular lip fractures. Involvement of neck, trochanter or intertrochanteric region is uncommon. Very few cases of posterior hip dislocation with ipsilateral intertrochanteric fracture in the absence of head or acetabular fracture have been reported in the literature. We report such a case in a 19yr male treated with open reduction and internal fixation with sliding hip screw with good functional and radiological outcome at 1 year. Being an extremely rare form of injury, such an injury pattern does not exist in present classification s

The fracture dislocation of the hip is a rare lesion described up to 4 to 17% of the cases and usually secondary to automobile accidents. Generally of poor prognosis and with already well documented complications such as avascular necrosis of the femoral head, osteoarthritis and heterotopic ossification. The iatrogenic fracture of the neck or head of the proximal femur is a complication even more rare and is not documented its incidence in the world literature. Having as probable causes the irreducibility of a dislocation of hip, more than one attempt of closed reduction, inadequate technique …

Irreducible ankle fracture-dislocations are very rare entities. The present case report demonstrates an unusual finding of tibialis posterior and flexor digitorum longus tendons interposed in the tibiofibular joint impairing successful closed reduction of ankle fracture-dislocation. A 45-year-old patient presented with a bimalleolar pronation-external rotation ankle fracture-dislocation after a motorcycle accident. Attempts to perform closed reduction before surgery were unsuccessful. Subsequent urgent open reduction and internal fixation surgical management revealed interposition of the tibia

BACKGROUND: Although rare, pediatric proximal humerus fractures may coexist with glenohumeral dislocations. Most of these injuries are Salter -Harris type of injuries. The treatment usually consists of closed or open reduction and k- wires fixation.
THE CASE: In this case report; a 10-year-old girl presented with a rare traumatic humeral surgical neck fracture with a posterior shoulder dislocation that was treated by closed reduction and flexible intramedullary nailing.
CONCLUSION: Pediatric humerus fracture dislocations are rare. Treatment should keep in mind preservation of the growth plat…

We report a case of a unilateral testicular dislocation to the superficial inguinal region associated with a lateral compression type pelvic ring injury (OTA classification 61-C3.3a2, b2, c3) and left T-shaped acetabulum fracture (OTA classification 62-B2) in a 44-year-old male who was in a motorcycle accident. The testicular dislocation was noted during the emergency department primary survey, and its location and viability were verified with ultrasound. The testicle was isolated during surgical stabilization of the left acetabulum through a Pfannenstiel incision and modified-Stoppa approach

A 15-year-old boy presented with a 35° femoral valgus deformity, leg-length discrepancy, painful retained hardware, and a lateral dislocation of the patella 4 years after undergoing lateral plate fixation of a distal femur fracture. Femoral valgus is a possible complication of lateral plate fixation in up to 30% of pediatric distal femur fractures. With this patient's unusual combination of deformities as an example, we suggest early hardware removal after fracture union to prevent the development of deformity. If plate removal is not chosen, then continued close monitoring of the patient is n

A rare case of a fracture of the anatomical neck of the humerus associated with a posterior dislocation of the shoulder in a 43-year-old man is presented. It was managed by immediate surgery using locking plate osteosynthesis. The shoulder was immobilised for 5 weeks in a Gilchrist brace. The outcome was very good with a full range of motion and a stable shoulder at 1 year after injury, with no signs of avascular necrosis of the humeral head. The aetiology of this injury and possibilities of its treatment are discussed. Key words: shoulder dislocation, humeral fractures.

Recently, we observed a case of lumbar artery injury after trauma, which was treated by endovascular embolization. A 67-year-old woman who was injured in a traffic accident was brought to the emergency room. She was conscious and her hemodynamic condition was stable, but she had paraplegia below L1 dermatome. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan of abdomen and pelvis revealed fracture dislocation of L3/4 along with retroperitoneal hematomas. However, there was no evidence of traumatic injury in both thoracic and abdominal cavity. At that time, her blood pressure suddenly decreased to 60/…

Since 1887, approximately 50 cases of an intra-articular patellar dislocation have been reported in the worldwide literature. The vast majority of patients required an open reduction of the patella or closed reduction under general anesthesia. This injury has never been reported in association with a coronal shear fracture of the femoral condyle. A 14-year-old boy presented to our institution with his left knee locked in flexion after a direct blow. Radiographs showed the patella rotated on its horizontal axis and lying in a transverse position within the knee joint, as well as a concomitant f

CONCLUSION: More severe high frequency hearing loss, especially at 8 kHz, occurs with fracture of the stapes suprastructure (SSF) compared with isolated incudostapedial joint dislocation (ISD). Successful hearing gain can be achieved in the speech range with appropriate ossicular reconstruction.
OBJECTIVES: Traumatic SSF is a rare consequence of head trauma. This study aimed to demonstrate the characteristic features of SSF compared with traumatic ISD.
METHODS: Eighteen patients who suffered from conductive hearing loss after head trauma and were operated from 2000 to 2012 were enrolled. Eig

This is a report of an uncommon Salter-Harris I fracture of the distal femoral physis with complete dislocation of the distal epiphysis. These fractures are most frequently sustained during sports injuries, with motor vehicle accidents as another leading cause. They are at high risk of nonanatomic healing with subsequent varus or valgus deformity or premature growth arrest of the physis with subsequent leg length difference. Although certain fractures of the distal femoral physis may be very rarely encountered in the emergency department, the unavailability of appropriate consult service or ri
