A 46-year-old woman developed an anaphylactic reaction during percutaneous coronary intervention after she was pretreated with prednisone and diphenhydramine for a known allergy to iodine. She developed pruritus, edema, and nausea, which were followed by bradycardia and shock, minutes after administration of a bolus and standard-dose infusion of abciximab. The reaction was treated successfully with epinephrine, methoxamine, hydrocortisone, atropine, furosemide, sodium bicarbonate, diphenhydramine, and ranitidine.

Presented is a case of acute bilateral conjunctivitis in a healthy 28-year-old man with signs and symptoms resembling those of catarrhal conjunctivitis but resulting from infestation with larvae of the sheep nasal botfly. The patient was treated with neomycin ointment and neomycin/hydrocortisone ophthalmic solution. While not a common cause of conjunctivitis, larval conjunctivitis requires prompt identification in order to institute specific and unique therapy that will prevent serious morbidity.

One hundred and sixteen patients with early corrosive burns of the oesophagus treated by the author are reviewed. It is emphasized that the all important aspect of management of these patients is prophylactic treatment to avoid stricture of the oesophagus. Early treatment consists of intravenous fluid therapy, broad spectrum antibiotics, sedation, parenteral hydrocortisone and more importantly maintaining the patency of the oesophagus followed by dilatation. The importance of early barium meal studies and oesophagoscopy is stressed.

We present a 22-year old girl with MPHD and a normal pituitary imaging (MRI) who grew to normal size without GH. She was very obese. At age 19 years replacement therapy with hydrocortisone, L-thyroxine and sex steroids was started. Despite severe growth hormone deficiency according to the provocative tests and decreased IGF I level our patient grew normally. On follow up at age 22 she is 174cm tall.

Sodium sulfacetamide, penetrating antibacterial, in combination with hydrocortisone and sulfur, has enjoyed twenty years of remarkable safety, with outstanding efficacy and patient acceptance, in the prescription treatment of pustular acne and severe, refractory seborrheic dermatitis. Recently, this combination has been reported to be highly effective concomitant therapy for perioral dermatitis. Almost paradoxically, it achieves these desired goals without the excessive erythema and discomforting irritation associated with retinoic acid and benzoyl peroxide.

Eighty days after i.c. cryoextraction of the lens without any complications, intra- or postoperative, choroidal detachment was observed in a 68-year-old woman (hypertension, diabetes m..amaurosis of the right eye after central artery embolism). -Conventional decongestive drugs (Reparil, Tantum, Tanderil) had no effect. Hypothyroidism is a common condition that can have serious consequences if left untreated. Thyroid storm with seizures is very rare in children. The authors report 3 children with thyroid storm who had a seizure in the absence of a history of neurologic disease. Acute medical management with propylthiouracil, Lugol's iodine solution, hydrocortisone, and propranolol led to a complete resolution of the symptoms. Patients with thyroid storm may be predisposed to the development of neuropsychiatric change. Early recognition and treatment of thyroid storm are essential to reduce morbidity and mortality from this disorder.

Rat lungs with hydrocortisone-induced pneumocystosis and a necropsy material from 5 patients with AIDS were studied light- and electron-microscopically. The identity of basic morphological features of lung pneumocystosis development in experiment and humans is demonstrated. Three main periods--latent, pronounced, terminal (pneumocystic pneumonia) are distinguished taking into account the relation of productive and vegetative forms of Pneumocystis carinii, state of the surfactants, type I alveolocytes and inflammation cells.
