AIM: Oral malodour affects a large proportion of the population, and may cause a significant social or psychological handicap to those suffering from it. The condition has a positive correlation with the accumulation of bacterial plaque in the oral cavity. The aim of the present study was twofold: first, to determine whether oral malodour and periodontal disease parameters are associated with one another in 150 Turkish subjects (mean age +/- SD = 9.1 +/- 2.7 years; age range = 7-12 years); and secondly, to investigate the impact of oral hygiene instruction and scaling on oral malodour.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of occupational exposures to blood or body fluids reported in dental hygiene students from 1996 to 1998 as well as postexposure management protocols used in dental hygiene programs.

Permissible concentrations of anionic surfactants for the soil of irrigated agricultural fields are experimentally grounded: these are as follows: 12 and 17 kg/ha (5 and 7 mg/kg) for sod-podzolic soils and black earths, respectively. By calculation, approximate permissible concentrations were also determined for other soils: 7 kg/ha (3 mg/kg) for sandy soils, 20 kg/ha (8 mg/kg) for loamy soils, and 25 kg/ha (10 mg/kg) for clay soils.

The quantity of salmonella, fecal coliform bacteria and fecal streptococci was measured in 2003 water samples from North Sea coastal water, drainage canals, the lower River Ems and sewage works. The presence of salmonella did not correlate to an increasing presence of fecal indicator bacteria. This case report describes a patient in whom orthodontic treatment and poor oral hygiene resulted in a severe mucogingival problem associated with a mandibular incisor tooth. Following mucogingival surgery, the esthetic and the oral hygiene maintenance problems were resolved. Orthodontic treatment carried out without periodontal consideration may, in some cases, jeopardize the final result.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether adult patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) can safely perform pulmonary hygiene measures without compromising their arterial oxygen saturation (SaO2) levels (less than 80 per cent).
