IMPORTANCE OF THE FIELD: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection affects 180 million people worldwide. Standard anti-HCV therapy combines effect of pegylated IFN-alpha on immune response and antiviral activity of ribavirin. Sustained virological response rate achieved with this standard of care medication is around 50% for HCV genotype 1, the most prevalent worldwide genotype. Gorham-Stout disease is a rare disease characterized by osteolysis, angiomatosis, and soft-tissue swelling. It is a diagnosis of exclusion and has an unknown etiology. Chylothorax is a common complication of the disease that is associated with a high mortality rate. There is no standard of treatment. We report a case of a 16-year-old female with Gorham-Stout disease and recurrent pleural effusions who was successfully treated with concurrent zoledronic acid and peg-interferon α-2b.

BACKGROUND: A 56-year-old man with normal cardiac function received treatment with interferon alpha-2b for malignant melanoma. Eight months after the initiation of therapy he developed fatigue and dyspnea on exertion. Two months later, he was admitted to hospital with ORTHOPNEA, worsening dyspnea and cough. PURPOSE/METHODS: The cause of Mooren's ulcer is unknown. We examined a patient with chronic hepatitis C who had a corneal ulceration that resembled Mooren's corneal ulcer.
RESULTS/CONCLUSION: The corneal ulceration progressed despite appropriate medical and surgical interventions. Recombinant interferon alpha 2b finally led to resolution of the process.
