Personality Characteristics and Acute Symptom Response Predict Chronic Symptoms After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury.

OBJECTIVE: Despite consensus that personality influences mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) recovery, it has been underexamined. We evaluated the extent to which diverse personality and psychiatric symptom dimensions predict mTBI recovery. METHODS: This prospective cohort study involved psychological assessments of hospital patients with mTBI (n = 75; median = 2 days post-injury, range = 0-12 days) and orthopedic trauma controls (OTC; n = 79) who were used for comparison in mediation modeling. Chronic symptoms were evaluated at 3 months after mTBI (n = 50) using the Sport Concussion Assessmen

Construct validity of the WISC-IV with a referred sample: direct versus indirect hierarchical structures.

The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition (WISC-IV) is one of the most frequently used intelligence tests in clinical assessments of children with learning difficulties. Construct validity studies of the WISC-IV have generally supported the higher order structure with four correlated first-order factors and one higher-order general intelligence factor, but recent studies have supported an alternate model in which general intelligence is conceptualized as a breadth factor rather than a superordinate factor (M. W. Watkins, 2010, Structure of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for

The Mediating Role of Psychological Well-Being in the Relationship Between Gaslighting at the Workplace and Occupational Burnout Among Nurses.

Psychological well-being refers to an individual's ability to realize one's potential and manage one's challenges. Gaslighting is a type of emotional and psychological abuse, and its occurrence at the workplace can negatively impact psychological well-being, lead to burnout, and turnover. This study aimed to examine the relationship between gaslighting, occupational burnout, and psychological well-being, and the latter's mediating role in this relationship. In total, 443 nurses were recruited between January 26, 2026, and February 13, 2026, using purposive sampling. Data were collected on soci

Childhood maltreatment increases psychological distress among adolescents: Longitudinal mediating roles of self-continuity and self-control.

Despite the recognition that childhood maltreatment is a significant risk factor for psychological distress, few have differentiated the distinct effects of childhood abuse and neglect, and the underlying mechanisms remain inadequately understood. To address these gaps, this study employed a three-wave longitudinal design over 12 months to examine the effect of childhood abuse and neglect on psychological distress among 946 Chinese adolescents (47.60% girls; aged 13-17 years, Mage = 15.35, SD = 0.59) and revealed the mediating roles of self-continuity and self-control. Correlation results indi

Attachment-related trauma markers and symptom severity in Afghan refugees.

BACKGROUND: Afghan refugees experience high levels of cumulative trauma and psychosocial adversity, yet attachment-related trauma has rarely been examined at the narrative level. Narrative attachment assessments may capture culturally embedded expressions of distress beyond post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)-focused symptom models. AIMS: This study examined narrative attachment-related trauma markers in Afghan refugees receiving out-patient psychological treatment. It investigated whether trauma marker frequency differed between resolved and unresolved attachment representations and whethe

Teacher psychopathology, burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion satisfaction during COVID-19: Resilience and risk factors.

Teaching staff have been especially vulnerable to experiencing psychopathology and compassion fatigue during COVID-19, given the significant demands they have experienced. Yet, research on risk and resilience factors is scant. We assessed the psychological status of Israeli teaching staff during COVID-19, focusing on psychopathology (depression, anxiety, somatization), compassion fatigue (burnout, secondary traumatic stress), and compassion satisfaction. We also examined the role of transdiagnostic risk and resilience factors-mentalizing, self-compassion, self-criticism, social support, and sp

Psychological interventions improve quality of life despite persistent pain in endometriosis: results of a 3-armed randomized controlled trial.

PURPOSE: Despite standard medical treatment endometriosis is often associated with disabling pain and poor quality of life (QoL). Studies indicate that psychological interventions (PIs) may improve pain and QoL, yet studies on the effects of PIs for women with endometriosis are sparse and limited by low-quality study designs. Therefore, this study aimed, in a rigorous three-armed design, to evaluate the effect of PIs on chronic pelvic pain (CPP) and QoL in women with endometriosis. METHODS: This three-armed parallel, multi-center randomized controlled trial included fifty-eight endometriosis
