BACKGROUND: Carcinoid tumours are neuroendocrine neoplasms mainly located in the gastrointestinal tract and bronchopulmonary system. Our study's aim was to characterise the familial nature of gastrointestinal carcinoid tumours using the Swedish Family-Cancer Database, which includes >11.5 million individuals.
METHODS: Familial relative risks (RRs) of carcinoid tumours were estimated for individuals with family history of invasive cancers. RRs of invasive cancers for the offspring of patients with carcinoid tumours were calculated as well. RRs were based on Poisson regression.

To investigate the clinicopathological and immunohistochemical features and prognostic factors for invasive extramammary Paget disease (EMPD) on penoscrotum, we described the clinical presentations, histopathology, and follow-up courses of 41 cases. Endoscopic stripping or laser therapy are the primary modalities for patients with premalignant vocal cord lesions and patients with T1 carcinomas of the mid-portion of the vocal cord. Partial laryngectomy is advocated for patients whose resection margins are positive following laser cordectomy, or where tumor extends to the arytenoid, anterior commissure, opposite vocal cord or subglottis. Radiotherapy is reserved for patients with tumors involving the interarytenoid region, professional voice patients, or patients unfit for general anesthesia.

In 141 mastectomy specimens, performed for invasive or non-invasive carcinomas, histopathologic study was performed to assess the extent of nipple-areola involvement by the tumor. Oral cancers are presumed to involve mandible or maxilla by direct invasion and destruction of periosteum and underlying bone. In countries where there is a high incidence of oral cancers, most patients have poor dental hygiene and chronic periodontitis. We hypothesize that in such situations spread through the periodontal space is the major route to bone. We suggest that micro and macroscopic examination of the root surface can identify this and that this has to be done for proper 'T' grouping of tumours.
