Nineteen patients suffering from primary osteoporosis, all having at least one vertebral collapse, initially received 50 mg of sodium fluoride alone per day for 6-18 months. We determined the serum molybdenum concentration by neutron activation analysis in apparently healthy subjects and in patients with diseases of the liver and biliary system. Iliac bone aluminium was determined by neutron activation analysis in 34 patients with chronic renal failure and in eight control subjects. In 17 patients treated by haemodialysis there was a significant increase in the amount of aluminium (mean +/- SE = 152 +/- 30 ppm bone ash). Thirty-six osteoporotic patients who underwent several therapeutic regimes were studied on two occasions by photon absorptiometry and total-body neutron activation analysis (TBNAA). PURPOSE: Meningiomas and schwannomas associated with neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2) are difficult to control by microsurgery and stereotactic radiotherapy alone. Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a chemically targeted form of radiotherapy requiring increased concentration of boron-10 in tumour tissue.
