AIMS: Oncogenic FGFR1/2/3 rearrangements are found in various cancers. Reported cases in head and neck (HN) are mainly squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) with FGFR3::TACC3 fusions, a subset of which also harbour high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV). However, the knowledge of the clinicopathological spectrum of FGFR-rearranged head and neck carcinomas (FHNC) is limited.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A retrospective MSK-fusion clinical sequencing cohort 2016-23 was searched to identify malignant tumours in the HN region harbouring FGFR1/2/3 fusion. FHNC were characterised by histological examination, immun

Liposarcoma is rare in the oral and salivary gland region (OSG), previously described in only case reports and two small series. Clinicopathologic features of a large series of these tumors were studied. Cases coded as "liposarcoma or lipoma" from 1970 to 2000 were searched for in our files. Inclusion required an OSG location and diagnosis by established soft tissue criteria. Dermal, other soft tissue, and intraosseous liposarcomas were excluded. Clinical and pathologic material was reviewed and follow-up obtained. Eighteen liposarcomas were included: 10 from males and 8 from females. The medi

Pediatric-type follicular lymphoma (PTFL) is an extremely rare B-cell lymphoma that primarily affects children and young adults, typically in individuals under 25 years old, with a median age of 15 years. Here, we report a rare case of PTFL in a 27-year-old adult male who presented with a slow-growing mass near his left ear. Initial CT scans of the neck revealed two oval-shaped, smooth, well-defined, homogeneously enhancing soft tissue density lesions in the superficial lobe of the left parotid gland. A complete surgical excision was performed, and a postoperative ultrasound of the neck confir

NUT carcinoma (NC) is a rare malignancy with aggressive clinical behavior, defined by rearrangements involving the NUTM1 gene locus. This entity is often under-recognized and its diagnosis may be challenging. In this study, we describe a subset of patients that, despite the molecularly proven diagnosis of NC, show improved outcomes. In addition, we describe one case with the novel ZNF532::NUTM1 fusion. All cases of NC diagnosed from 2013 to 2022 in our department were retrieved. FISH using dual color bring-together probes and next-generation sequencing assay were performed to characterize the

INTRODUCTION: Neurofibromin, a protein encoded by the NF1 gene, is mutated in neurofibromatosis 1, one of the most common genetic diseases. Oral manifestations are common and a high prevalence of hyposalivation was recently described in individuals with neurofibromatosis 1. Although neurofibromin is ubiquitously expressed, its expression levels vary depending on the tissue type and developmental stage of the organism. The role of neurofibromin in the development, morphology, and physiology of salivary glands is unknown and a detailed expression of neurofibromin in human normal salivary glands

BACKGROUND: Extracorporeal lithotripsy is now used routinely for the treatment of salivary duct stones. The question arose whether electrohydraulic intracorporeal lithotripsy, which is applied in urology and gastroenterology, might also be useful in the treatment of this disease. Before its possible clinical application the influence of electrohydraulic intracorporeal shock waves on salivary stones in vitro and any influence on the tissue in the head and neck region (in vivo) had to be investigated.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In vitro experiments. Fifty-eight salivary stones and 11 extirpated hum

Salivary gland tumor is one of the most common tumors in oral and maxillofacial regions. The diagnosis and treatment of salivary gland tumors had been a clinical characteristic project in Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology since long time ago. Here we introduced the research progress in diagnosis and treatment of salivary gland tumors during the past 10 years. Among 7 190 cases of salivary gland tumors treated in this institution, 4 654 cases (64.7%) were benign, and 2 536 (35.3%) were malignant, with benign ∶ malignant ratio of 1.84 ∶ 1. Parotid was the most common location,
