The patient was a 16-year-old male who visited our hospital with the chief complaint of microhematuria. Computed tomography revealed left hydronephrosis, renal stones and left renal tumor. Needle biopsy was performed under ultrasonography. The histological diagnosis was adenocarcinoma and left radical nephrectomy was performed. The histological diagnosis was mucinous adenocarcinoma of the renal pelvis. Postoperative chemotherapy was not given. The patient has had neither recurrence nor metastasis for 1 year following surgery. This is the 92nd reported case in the literature.

Fine needle aspiration biopsy for cytologic evaluation of mass lesions of the kidney, renal pelvis and adrenal is a safe economic and accurate diagnostic procedure. Tumors and inflammatory or degenerative lesions arising from these organs have characteristic cytologic features permitting their correct identification in the majority of cases.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the accuracy of pulsed Doppler ultrasound (PDUS) and color Doppler ultrasound (CDUS) for the screening of arterial occlusive disease in the pelvis and lower extremities.
METHODS: We studied 52 patients with intermittent claudication or lower extremity "coolness." Pulsed Doppler waveforms were measured in the inguinal and popliteal regions and were classified according to their pattern. Patients with abnormal waveforms underwent subsequent CDUS evaluation from the aortic bifurcation to the popliteal arteries. All patients also underwent conventional angiography.

Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XPN) is an uncommon, but not rare, type of bacterial infection of the kidneys. Malignancies originating within the renal pelvis are uncommon. We report a case of XPN associated with a transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the renal pelvis in a 70-year-old woman. A case of adenocarcinoma of the renal pelvis is presented. The patient was an 84-year-old man suffering from long-standing right-sided nephrolithiasis. Surgical resection of the right kidney revealed adenocarcinoma with slight stromal invasion. We describe a syndrome combining abnormalities of the pelvis, knee and foot in three related patients with a familial history of small dislocated patellae. The clinical and radiological appearance of the patella and pelvis is consistent with the 'small-patella' syndrome, a rare autosomal dominant disorder. There were also previously unreported deformities affecting the feet.

A case of mucinous adenocarcinoma probably originating in the renal pelvis of an ectopic pyelic kidney with infiltration of the adjacent urinary bladder is reported. Review of the literature shows that this is the 42nd case of such a tumor, the second one reported in the pelvis of an ectopic pyelic kidney, and the first infiltrating the urinary bladder.

In 12 children with the different forms of anorectal atresia, for studying the state of a sphincter apparatus of the rectum and assessment of quality of its bringing down into the perineum after proctoplasty, computerized tomography of the organs of a small pelvis was used. Underdeveloped and undifferentiated musculus levator ani in children with high anorectal atresia and fistula to the urinary bladder was revealed. The method permits to establish exact location of the intestine brought down relative to musculus levator ani and external anal sphincter.

Localized amyloidosis of the genitourinary tract is a rare phenomenon. The differential diagnosis between amyloidosis and malignancy is difficult. We report the case of an 81-year-old man with extensive unilateral localized amyloidosis of the renal pelvis, ureter and ureteral orifice. Diagnosis of amyloidosis was confirmed only postoperatively.

Regional thrombolysis was performed in 62 patients with thrombosis of the aorta and arteries of the pelvis and lower extremities. The thrombolytics used were avelysin (20 patients) and celiase (42 patients). Complete lysis of the thrombi was recorded in 49 cases.
