MOFs-Derived Integrated Hierarchical Carbon Electrode for Hydrogen Peroxide Synthesis in Acidic Media.

Current research on electrosynthesis of hydrogen peroxide mainly focuses on optimizing intrinsic active sites, while overlooking the constraints imposed by mass transport limitations and weak oxygen adsorption capacity during the reaction. Herein, we developed an integrated hierarchically porous carbon electrode composed of MOF-derived porous carbon sheets arrayed on carbon cloth and epitaxially grown carbon nanotube networks, with highly active Co-Nx sites generated in situ. During the synthesis, pure water was initially employed as the solvent to promote the ordered growth of sheet-like MOFs

AEROBIC EXERCISE ATTENUATES HEPATIC LIPID PEROXIDATION IN AN EXPERIMENTAL MODEL OF OBESITY-ASSOCIATED NAFLD.

BACKGROUND: The global rise in obesity has been accompanied by an increasing prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), for which effective non-pharmacological therapeutic strategies remain limited. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the effects of aerobic exercise on hepatic oxidative stress in an experimental model of obesity-associated NAFLD. METHODS: Newly weaned Wistar rats were fed a highly palatable, obesity-inducing diet. After obesity was established, the animals were randomly assigned to either a trained group (n=12) or a sedentary group (n=12). The trained group under

Photocatalytic Hydrogen Peroxide Production from Water Using a Cyano-Covalent Organic Framework.

The demand for sustainable chemical production methods has led to significant advancements in photocatalysis. This study explores the photocatalytic production of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) from water using a covalent organic framework (CYANO-COF) synthesized from triformylphloroglucinol (Tp) and 4,4'-diamino-[1,1'-biphenyl]-3,3'-dicarbonitrile (Bp-CN) via Schiff-base condensation. The synthesized COF material exhibited a predominantly AB stacking structure with an optimal band gap (2.22 eV) for visible-light absorption and effective charge separation. Furthermore, the photoelectrochemical chara

Substituent-induced oxidation-reduction molecular organic junction for interfacial hydrogen peroxide photosynthesis.

The distribution of catalytic active sites critically dictates photocatalytic efficiency, but existing catalyst design operate at the same or adjacent sites still remain limitations toward photocatalytic reaction. To address this, a kind of spatially separable oxidation-reduction assignment in fluorine substituted molecular organic junction catalyst (covalent triazine framework, CTF-TF-0.5) is constructed. By modulating the coordination of F-substituted benzene linkers, we controlled the redox nature of triazine ring in CTFs to obtain the separable oxidation-reduction assignment. It achieves a

High-quality hydrogen peroxide production through electrochemical reduction of anthraquinone in ambient environment.

At present, the traditional anthraquinone method is the main method for producing high-quality and high-concentration H2O2, but it involves the use of H2, resulting in high carbon emissions and certain risks. The double-electron oxygen reduction reaction has become a more environmentally friendly alternative method for producing H2O2. However, at high overpotentials, the production and conversion rates of H2O2 are still limited. Here, we report an electrochemical method that can convert H2O and formaldehyde into high-concentration H2O2 and high-value formate salts with high product purity unde

Highly selective leaching of lithium via the synergistic effect of lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide.

The large-scale use of lithium iron phosphate (LFP)-based lithium-ion batteries has raised increasing challenges in environmental protection and resource recovery. This study investigated the feasibility of recovering spent LFP using lactic acid assisted by hydrogen peroxide, aiming to develop an efficient, mild, and economically viable recycling process. The leaching performance of five organic acids was compared, and the results showed that the lactic acid-hydrogen peroxide system exhibited excellent selectivity for lithium extraction. Under the optimized conditions of 0.2 mol/L lactic acid,

Hydrodynamic cavitation/UV oxidation of tetracycline: oxidant-dependent performance of hydrogen peroxide and peroxydisulfate.

A hydrodynamic cavitation/ultraviolet (HC/UV) platform was developed to systematically compare the oxidant-dependent degradation of tetracycline (TC) using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and peroxydisulfate (PDS) as oxidants. Cavitation visualization revealed that increasing the inlet pressure enhanced cavity growth and intensified cloud shedding, while TC removal by HC alone was highest at 0.35 MPa within the tested range. Under identical conditions, PDS exhibited a stronger response to binary process coupling than H2O2, with the UV/PDS system showing the highest synergistic index, while the HC/UV/

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short-term immobilization.

Disuse-induced muscle atrophy may involve dysregulated iron metabolism, yet the underlying mechanisms are unclear. We examined iron homeostasis in mouse gastrocnemius muscle following 14-day casting-induced immobilization. Muscle mass declined by ~ 25%, accompanied by increased nonheme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated, suggesting disruption of IRP/IRE feedback control. Additionally, levels of 4-hydroxynonenal, a marker of lipid peroxidation, were elevated without compensatory res

HSF4 promotes lipid peroxidation by transcriptionally regulating ALOX15 during lens terminal differentiation.

Lens fibers undergo organelle degradation during lens terminal differentiation. Defects in organelle degradation of lens fibers lead to congenital cataract. As a member of heat shock factor family, HSF4 governs lens development by regulating the expression of key factors. HSF4 transcriptionally regulates ATG9a to induce organelle degradation via the autophagic pathway during lens terminal differentiation. HSF4 is also required for the organelle membrane translocation of phospholipases PLAATs, which were suggested to promote organelle degradation independent of autophagy in lens fibers. However

Photoreceptor Vulnerability to Ferroptosis: Membrane Phospholipid Peroxidation, Mitochondrial Homeostasis, and RPE-Photoreceptor Coupling.

Photoreceptor (PR) degeneration is a shared pathological feature of multiple blinding retinal diseases. This narrative review examines the mechanisms underlying PR vulnerability to ferroptosis-associated lipid-peroxidation injury, with emphasis on three interconnected features: the marked enrichment of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and other polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in PR outer-segment disc membranes; the chronically high metabolic demand of PRs and the specialized spatial organization of their mitochondria; and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)-PR metabolic coupling, including outer-se

Ultraviolet Light, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, and Ozone as Sanitizers for Hatching Eggs: A Review.

Sanitizing hatching eggs has become increasingly recommended as a strategy to reduce infections, limit the spread of bacteria, and promote healthier conditions for developing embryos. The absence of this procedure can contribute to lower hatchability rates in commercial hatcheries. Therefore, investigating different sanitizers applied to hatching eggs is essential. This review synthesized evidence from Google Scholar up to June 2026, examining the effects of ultraviolet light (UV), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), peracetic acid (PAA), and ozone (O3) on eggshell bacterial load, eggshell structural in

Malondialdehyde at the Crossroads of Oxidative Stress, Lipid Peroxidation, Ferroptosis, and Hematological Malignancies: A Narrative Review.

Oxidative stress is increasingly recognized as a key contributor to the biology of hematological malignancies. Excessive production of reactive oxygen species disrupts redox homeostasis, promotes genomic instability, alters cellular signaling pathways, and influences disease progression, therapeutic response, and resistance mechanisms. Among the downstream consequences of oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation represents a major source of cellular injury, generating reactive aldehydes capable of amplifying molecular damage. Malondialdehyde, a stable end product of lipid peroxidation, has emerged

The ArcAB two-component system is associated with the susceptibility of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans to superoxide and hydrogen peroxide.

Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans is a Gram-negative facultative anaerobe and is associated with periodontal disease. This bacterium is exposed to environmental stresses, such as osmotic pressure, temperature shifts, pH shifts, and antimicrobial substances, including reactive oxygen species (ROS), in the human oral cavity. The bacterial two-component system ArcAB modulates gene expression in response to environmental changes, primarily by sensing oxygen pressure in several pathogens belonging to the γ-proteobacteria. It is also known to provide adaptation to ROS stress; however, its functi

Oxidative Stress-mediated Lipid Peroxidation-derived Lipid Aldehydes in the Pathophysiology of Neurodegenerative Diseases.

Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis cause damage and gradual loss of neurons affecting the central nervous system. Neurodegenerative diseases are most commonly seen in the ageing process. Ageing causes increased reactive oxygen species and decreased mitochondrial ATP generation, resulting in redox imbalance and oxidative stress. Oxidative stress-generated free radicals cause damage to membrane lipids containing polyunsaturated fatty acids, leading to the formation of toxic lipid aldehyde products such as 4- hydroxynonenal and malondial

Female sex is a risk factor for exacerbated lipid peroxidation and disease in murine retinitis pigmentosa.

Oxidative stress is an important aspect in retinal degenerations that could be targeted in various forms of currently untreatable diseases. It is generally believed that males are more predisposed to oxidative stress than females due to their higher metabolic activity and/or lower antioxidant capacity. However, studies using mouse disease models have demonstrated that photoreceptor degeneration progresses faster in females. Sex hormones likely play a role, but the cellular mechanism behind the sex difference is unclear. In the current study, we confirmed that the accelerated disease phenotype

An efficient electrocatalytic in-situ hydrogen peroxide generation for ballast water treatment with oxygen groups.

The in-situ electrochemical production of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) offers a promising approach for ballast water treatment. However, further advancements are required to develop electrocatalysts capable of achieving efficient H2O2 generation in seawater environments. Herein, we synthesized two-dimensional lamellated porous carbon nanosheets enriched with oxygen functional groups, which exhibited exceptional performance in H2O2 electrosynthesis. The carbon nanosheet electrocatalysts demonstrated high selectivity for H2O2 production, reaching 90 % at 0.33 V vs. RHE under neutral conditions. Maxi

Antioxidants in cancer therapy mitigating lipid peroxidation without compromising treatment through nanotechnology.

BACKGROUND: Cancer treatments often exploit oxidative stress to selectively kill tumour cells by disrupting their lipid peroxidation membranes and inhibiting antioxidant enzymes. However, lipid peroxidation plays a dual role in cancer progression, acting as both a tumour promoter and a suppressor. Balancing oxidative stress through antioxidant therapy remains a challenge, as excessive antioxidant activity may compromise the efficacy of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. AIM: This review explores the role of antioxidants in mitigating lipid peroxidation in cancer therapy while maintaining treatmen

The role of non-coding RNA in ferroptosis of liver cancer and its impact on lipid peroxidation.

Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent programmed death caused by the imbalance of lipid peroxides in cells. Unlike apoptosis, autophagy and necrosis, ferroptosis is mainly induced by the small molecule compound erastin. The main characteristics of ferroptosis were glutathione (GSH) depletion, inactivation of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) promoting lipid peroxidation. Eventually, the imbalance of lipid peroxidation regulation in cells leads to ferroptosis. The lipid metabolic pathway ultimately contributes to ferroptosis through the production of lipid peroxides. …

Comparative genomic analysis of hydrogen peroxide and nitric oxide metabolic pathways in Limosilactobacillus fermentum.

Limosilactobacillus fermentum strains influence human health through distinct metabolic pathways; however, the genetic basis of these strain-specific functions remains unclear. This study investigated phenotypic divergence between two L. fermentum strains isolated from the human oral microbiome. Despite 98.2% average nucleotide identity, comparative genomics revealed substantial strain-specific gene repertoires (485 and 542 unique genes in DM072 and DM075, respectively). Functional characterization demonstrated that DM072 synthesizes hydrogen peroxide via pyruvate oxidase (EC 1.2.3.3; K00158),
