PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to analyze the primary and long-term results of implanting self-expanding covered nitinol stents (EndoPro I) in iliac arteries.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 48 EndoPro (length 8.3 +/- 4.2 cm) were implanted in 39 patients. In 22 cases (group A) the implantation was performed after excimer laser-assisted recanalization (PTLA) of long iliac occlusions (mean 9.8 +/- 3.9 cm). Other indications were aneurysmatic lesions (n = 16) and one arterial perforation (group B).

A 23-year-old man presented with progressive exercise-related dyspnea and easy fatigability. He gave a history of a murmur of aortic insufficiency since childhood. Cardiac catheterization demonstrated severe aortic insufficiency. At surgery the patient was found to have prolapse of the right coronary cusp into a significant supracristal ventricular septal defect. Although the routine use of a patch for closure of the arteriotomy after carotid endarterectomy is still debated, patch angioplasty is frequently used to avoid residual stenosis and to lower the incidence of later restenosis. Several materials are widely used for carotid patching, notably, autologous vein, Dacron and polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE). During recent years a heterologous stabilized graft made from bovine pericardium has been introduced. This paper reports the authors' experience of 52 carotid endarterectomies in which a patch of bovine pericardium was used to close the arteriotomy.

Fifty-six patients with chronic intestinal ischemia underwent surgical revascularization. All patients had abdominal pain, 98% experienced significant weight loss, and 75% had an abdominal bruit. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship among the pain region, branches of trigeminal nerve, and the neurovascular compression (NVC) location. A total of 123 consecutive patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN) underwent endoscope-assisted microvascular decompression according to positive preoperative tomographic angiography. V2 alone was in 51 cases and V3 alone was in 64 cases. The location of NVC was classified into cranial, caudal, medial, or lateral sites. Some patients with multiple regions were recorded as medial + cranial, lateral + cranial, medial + caudal, and lateral + caudal.

A 67-year-old man was admitted with severe abdominal pain and back pain. Computed tomography showed an infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (8.4 × 8.3 cm) and a large retroperitoneal hematoma. BACKGROUND: Patch closure is generally performed for atrial septation of an atrioventricular septal defect. We recently developed a new surgical technique for repairing atrioventricular septal defects that avoids the use of any patch material for closing the atrial septal defect. We report our experience with this procedure.
METHODS: Seven patients (complete type: 5, partial type: 2) underwent this new operation. The diameters of the atrial septal defects were measured by transesophageal echocardiography. The preoperative electrocardiograms were compared with those taken after the operations.
