Lumbar hernias (LHs) are exceedingly rare, with definite management being surgery immediately upon diagnosis when the patient is medically fit. Herein, we report the case of a male patient in his mid-40s who presented with acquired left LH secondary to transabdominal percutaneous drainage of necrotic collection in a case of necrotising pancreatitis as a part of a step-up approach. Current drug detection methods, such as blood and urine analysis, are often invasive and raise ethical and privacy concerns. This study demonstrates that breathing through typical polypropylene-based meltblown cloth face masks is an efficient and user-friendly method for collecting drugs from exhaled breath for analysis. STUDY OBJECTIVE: To report a rare case of urethral duplication (UD) in a 5-year-9-month-old girl and describe the surgical approach and outcomes.
METHODS: A 5-year-9-month-old girl presented with postvoid dribbling and clitoral swelling. Physical examination and imaging were performed. During surgery, a fistula tract was identified, dissected, and excised. This tract was found to be a UD extending between the distal urethra and the clitoris. Sea salt can be considered as a vector of microplastics in the human body. In this work, the sea salts collected from three Italian salterns has been solubilized in MilliQ water and filtered to extract microplastics. The visual quantification of microplastics with a stereomicroscope was carried out on the bases of their size, followed by a classification taking into account their physical characteristics. A modified suture technique for precise knot placement in the Hoffman corneoscleral pocket technique of scleral fixation is described. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are implicated in the immunopathology of numerous infectious diseases. High risk samples such as those generated after infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis require filter sterilization for safe analysis of MMP concentrations.
