It was widely known that 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA) can cause contact dermatitis. Commercially available dentine primers and dentine bonding agents that contain 2-HEMA are widely used. The purpose of this study was to investigate the cumulative irritation and delayed hypersensitivity caused by commercial dentine bonding systems when applied to the skin of guinea pigs. We have concluded that almost no dentine bonding systems cause cumulative irritation, but some commercially available dentine bonding systems may produce delayed hypersensitivity.

INTRODUCTION: The interaction of soft tissues with resin-based restorations is not well understood. Understanding such interplay is essential when restoring root surface lesions close to the gingiva as it can impact the clinical outcome. This study examined cellular interactions with a novel resin-based material and compared these with contemporary materials.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) (Fuji II), resin composites (G-aenial/Bioactiva) and a novel strontium-substituted bioglass (Sr-BG) filled resin were assessed. A range of bulk and leachate characterisations wer

Bone metastases are the most common cause of pain in cancer patients. Pain management in cancer patients, often revealing the disease and always present at advanced stages, is an important and difficult task. Pain is not always properly controlled by high doses of specific medication, radiation therapy or chemotherapy. When these therapies do not provide adequate pain relief, percutaneous neurolysis, infiltrations, alcoholizations and cementoplasty may be considered. More recently RF ablation has been proposed. On weight-bearing bones, RF can be combined with acrylic cement injection. The auth

Fifty extracted human maxillary anterior teeth were biomechanically instrumented and divided into five equal groups, four experimental and a control. The teeth in the experimental groups had their root surface coated with one of four sealants; epoxy, casting resin, sticky wax, or nail polish. The roots of the remaining teeth were not coated and served as controls. All of the teeth were mounted in the caps of scintillation vials. Five microliters of [3H]uridine were deposited in the root canal space and disintegration counts were obtained over time periods of 1, 4, 8, 12, and 36 wk. At the conc

Determination of leakage using a fluid transport model allows measurement of leakage in a longitudinal manner. Leakage of four sealers at three different thicknesses in 225 bovine root sections, after storage in water for 1 year, was measured again using the same methodology. The change in seal over time for each sealer was observed. The results after the second measurement showed that every sealer produced the best seal when the sealer layer was the thinnest. AH26, Ketac-Endo and Tubli-Seal showed a reduction in leakage over time and gave significantly less leakage than Sealapex (P<0.005). Se

Background and objectives Direct pulp capping (dPC) is a therapeutic process that involves the application of a protective chemical to an exposed pulp with the intent to facilitate the restoration and preservation of its vitality and function. Despite numerous proposed solutions, researchers have yet to find a dependable, non-absorbable bioactive pulp capping substance that constantly activates cellular healing processes, consequently preserving pulpal vitality over an extended period of time. The objective of this study was to assess and contrast the efficacy of a novel tricalcium silicate ce

PURPOSE: Rigid rod polymers (RRPs) can be used as reinforcing fillers, comparable to inorganic particulate fillers, with the exception that RRP fillers can be dissolved from the surface, thus potentially improving their adhesion to polymer matrix. This study evaluated the effect of water storage on the microtensile bond strength (μTBs) of composite resin to dentin using experimental RRP modified primers.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Experimental primers were fabricated by dissolving RRP (Parmax, 1240, Mississippi PolymerTechnologies, USA) into dichloromethane (DCM) and mixing it with the monomers b
