NUTM1/NUTM2B-Rearranged Intra-abdominal Sarcomas: A Distinct Entity From Sarcomas With ESR1 Overexpression as a Therapeutic Target.

Emerging evidence reports that NUTM1 rearrangements also occur in noncarcinomas, including skin tumors, leukemias, and high-grade sarcomas. Recently, a distinct subset of NUTM1-rearranged sarcomas was identified intra-abdominally, mainly of colonic origin, differing molecularly, based on limited methylation analysis. This study aimed to further explore 5 patients with NUTM1/NUTM2-rearranged intra-abdominal sarcomas at clinical, histologic, immunohistochemical, and transcriptomic levels. The included patients were all females without a history of cancer; their mean age was 51.6 years (range: 29

Cerebral venous thrombosis and myeloproliferative neoplasms: A three-center study of 74 consecutive cases.

The recent association of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) with COVID-19 vaccinations prompted the current retrospective review of 74 cases of CVT (median age = 44 years, range 15-85; 61% females) associated with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), seen at the Mayo Clinic, Catholic University of Rome, and University of Florence, between 1991 and 2021. Disease-specific frequencies were 1.3% (39/2893), 1.2% (21/1811) and 0.2% (3/1888) for essential thrombocythemia, polycythemia vera and primary myelofibrosis, respectively. Cerebral venous thrombosis occurred either prior to (n = 20, 27%), at (n

Efficacy of endoscopic surveillance in the detection of local recurrence after radical rectal cancer surgery is limited? A retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Rectal cancer, one of most common neoplasms, is characterized by an overall survival rate exceeding 60%. Nonetheless, local recurrence (LR) following surgery for rectal cancer remains a formidable clinical problem. The aim of this study was to assess the value of postoperative endoscopic surveillance (PES) for the early detection of LR in rectal cancer after radical anterior resection with sigmoid-rectal anastomosis. METHODS: We performed an anterior resection in 228 patients with stages I‑III rectal cancer who had undergone surgery from 2001 to 2008 in the Oncology Center in Bydg

[A Case of Sigmoid Colon Cancer with Rectal Intussusception Treated by Robotic Surgery].

We reported a case of sigmoid colon cancer with rectal intussusception. An 82-year-old woman had anal prolapse. Results of the examination, it was a diagnosis of sigmoid colon cancer with rectal intussusception. The tumor was then repositioned. Based on the above, robotic sigmoidectomy with D3 dissection of lymph nodes was performed. The histopathological diagnosis demonstrated double sigmoid colon cancers and no ischemic change of colon. She has not recurred 16 months later after operation.

[A Case of Strangulated Bowel Obstruction after a Laparoscopic Hartmann's Operation for Rectal Cancer].

A 98-year-old woman presented with hematochezia and a circumferential type 2 tumor in the rectum Rb identified on fiberoscopy. We a performed laparoscopic Hartmann's operation and D2 lymphadenectomy for advanced rectal cancer. A sigmoid colostomy was created via the intraperitoneal route. On the postoperative day 12, the patient experienced abdominal pain. Computed tomography showed that the small intestine formed a closed loop in the pelvic space. The patient was diagnosed with a strangulated bowel obstruction of the small intestine for which an emergency exploratory laparotomy was performed.

Do surface morphology and pit pattern have a role in predicting cancer for colon polyps in North America?

BACKGROUND: The surface morphology of colorectal polyps is well correlated with submucosal invasion in Eastern Countries but not in North America. We aimed to investigate associations between the Paris classification, surface morphology, and Kudo pit pattern to submucosal invasion in advanced endoscopic resection techniques. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed prospectively collected data of consecutive advanced endoscopic procedures conducted by a single surgeon between August 2017 and October 2018. The data included patients' demographics, the endoscopic finding of polyps (Paris, Kudo, and

Indocyanine green for radical lymph node dissection in patients with sigmoid and rectal cancer: randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: D3 lymph node dissection is recommended for patients with advanced sigmoid and rectal cancer in Japan. This trial aimed to investigate the feasibility of indocyanine green (ICG) as a tracer to increase the nodal harvest during D3 lymph node dissection in patients with sigmoid and rectal cancer. METHODS: This prospective randomized clinical trial was performed between May 2021 and April 2022. The inclusion criteria were patients with stage I-III sigmoid or rectal cancer eligible for laparoscopic resection. Patients were 1: 1 randomized to either the ICG group (endoscopic ICG inject

Anal Atresia in a Patient Who Had Undergone Hartmann Procedure.

BACKGROUND Hartmann procedure can be necessary for the treatment of rectal cancer and colonic perforation. The distal diverted intestinal tract is usually disregarded, while the proximal colon is diverted with a stoma. Most of the reported complications related to a diverted intestinal tract following Hartmann procedure include inflammation and intestinal tumors; however, there are only a few reports about postoperative anal complications. Herein, we report a rare case of anal atresia following Hartmann procedure. Anal atresia is generally considered as a congenital malformation; therefore, th

[A Case of Locally Advanced Sigmoid Colon Cancer Occupying the Pelvis with Successful Total Posterior Pelvic Exenteration after Triplet Chemotherapy].

We report a case of locally advanced colon cancer that directly invaded the rectum wall and uterus resulting in huge mass in the whole pelvis that we could successfully made complete radical resection of the whole tumor without exposing the tumor to the surgical margin after the triplet chemotherapy. The patient was a 57-year-old woman complaining of anus pain, melena, fever, and weight loss. Although swelling of the regional lymph node was observed, no distant metastasis was found resulting in clinical diagnosis of Stage Ⅲb. However, oncologically safe complete resection seemed difficult; thu

Mesh migration into the sigmoid colon mimics a colon tumor, a rare complication after herniorrhaphy: case report.

INTRODUCTION: Tension-free mesh repair is a widely used hernioplasty technique. However, mesh migration is a severe complication that may induce colon inflammation or perforation and can occur several months to several years following hernioplasty. CASE REPORT: We present a case where mesh migrated into the sigmoid colon 12 years postoperation and was mistaken for a colon tumor.

[Case of Laparoscopic Sigmoidectomy for a Patient with Persistent Descending Mesocolon].

A 65-year-old man with bloody stools was diagnosed with sigmoid colon cancer on colonoscopy. A preoperative barium enema and a computed tomography colonography scan showed a medial displacement of his descending colon. The preoperative clinical diagnosis was stage cT1 colon cancer, N0, M0, cStage I . Laparoscopic sigmoidectomy was performed. We found adhesions between the descending colon mesentery and the pelvic wall, and noted that the descending colon was not fused with the retroperitoneum and was shifted to the midline. The patient was diagnosed with persistent descending mesocolon (PDM).

[A Case of Bullous Pemphigoid Relieved after Sigmoid Colon Cancer Resection].

A 76-year-old man presented with many bullous lesions and erythema over his whole body in August 2014. Blood examination showed an elevation of the anti-BP180 antibody (658 U/mL) and a biopsied specimen of the skin lesions showed subepidermal bulla. A diagnosis of bullous pemphigoid was made based on the clinical and histological findings. Although 20 mg/day of prednisolone was administered, there was a poor response and consequently the dose of steroid was increased to 70 mg/day after 2 weeks. Bullous pemphigoid related to a malignant tumor was suspected. Colonic endoscopic examination reveal

A planar gastrointestinal stromal tumor replacing the proper muscle layer causing fecaloma and perforation in the sigmoid colon: a case report and literature review.

A 72-year-old Japanese male with acute abdomen underwent emergency surgery for a preoperative diagnosis of stercoral colonic perforation of the sigmoid colon. A pathological examination revealed a proliferating spindle cell lesion that surrounded the perforation and replaced the muscularis propria without any mass formation. The spindle cells were positive for KIT and CD34 by immunohistochemistry, and somatic mutation of the c-kit gene was found using genomic DNA extracted from the lesion. We diagnosed the spindle cell lesion as a planar gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). We speculate that
