Conjunctival melanocytic tumors represent a spectrum of pigmented tumors that include benign, premalignant and malignant tumors. BACKGROUND: Corneal and conjunctival calcification have been associated with chronic renal failure and hyperparathyroidism. Corneal alterations include band keratopathy and/or limbal involvement similar to limbal girdle of Vogt. Conjunctival lesions resemble pingueculae. PURPOSE: We prospectively evaluated the NOVAWET-Perception multifocal contact lens for comfort and performance.
METHODS: We fit 28 presbyopic patients with this multifocal contact lens. This multifocal rigid gas permeable lens has a multiaspheric back surface and multiple eccentricity values, allowing for a natural field of vision at all angles. Patients were evaluated prior to inclusion in the study and then at 1,3, and 9 months. Evaluations included slit lamp examination, visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, and completion of a questionnaire regarding comfort and overall satisfaction.

Isotretinoin (13-cis-retinoic acid) is commonly used for the treatment of acne vulgaris. In the skin this substance causes an atrophy of sebaceous gland acini and a decrease in sebum production. Systemic treatment also alters meibomian gland function and structure. These alterations seem to be responsible for ocular complications (dryness of the eye, blepharitis, conjunctivitis) during therapy with isotretinoin. The authors evaluated ocular involvement in 23 patients affected by rheumatoid arthritis (RA) according to ARA criteria. A prospective age- and sex-controlled study of seven anorexia nervosa patients and seven normal control patients was conducted to determine the ocular manifestations of anorexia nervosa.
