A rat Satb1 truncation causes neurodevelopmental abnormalities recapitulating the symptoms of patients with SATB1 mutations.

The special AT-rich sequence binding protein 1 (SATB1) has been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) including developmental delay, intellectual disabilities (ID) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). But the underlying biological mechanisms are still not fully understood. In this study we generated a rat model with a truncated Satb1 protein. We showed that Satb1 mutant caused growth retardation, microcephaly, altered ultrasonic vocalization and delayed neurobehavioral development in mutant pups as well as social and cognitive behavior deficits in adult mutants, mimicking the typical cl

Enhancing community based health programs in Iran: a multi-objective location-allocation model.

Community Based Organizations (CBOs) are important health system stakeholders with the mission of addressing the social and economic needs of individuals and groups in a defined geographic area, usually no larger than a county. The access and success efforts of CBOs vary, depending on the integration between health care providers and CBOs but also in relation to the community participation level. To achieve widespread results, it is important to carefully design an efficient network which can serve as a bridge between the community and the health care system. This study addresses this challeng

Association of adverse childhood experiences patterns with successful aging trajectories: a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: The long-term influence of distinct adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) patterns on heterogeneous trajectories of successful aging (SA) remains unclear. METHODS: Using 2011-2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study data from 3,092 community-dwelling older adults (aged ≥ 60), latent class analysis identified four distinct ACE patterns from 13 binary indicators based on exposure probabilities, clinical significance, and prior literature. SA was evaluated across five domains: absence of chronic disease, no disability, high cognition, no depressive symptoms, and active soci

Evaluation of social protection for people affected by tuberculosis: development of an indicator matrix for Brazil.

BACKGROUND: In the context of tuberculosis elimination, social protection seeks to mitigate multiple forms of vulnerability experienced by people affected by the disease, addressing both biological and social factors and directly targeting the social determinants of health. However, in Brazil, the absence of standardized conceptual tools and process indicators to assess the operationalization and implementation of intersectoral actions and services related to social protection for tuberculosis control highlights the need for an instrument capable of evaluating how the social protection network

Cultural transmission of attitudes and behaviours from parents, peers and grandparents.

This study investigates how attitudes and behaviours are transmitted across generations and social networks, focusing on the relative influence of parents, grandparents, and peers. Building on the influential work of Cavalli-Sforza and Feldman (1982), we aimed to disentangle vertical and horizontal pathways of cultural transmission and assess their contribution to the stability and variation of cultural traits in a contemporary population. We conducted a large-scale survey involving 1905 university students in Australia and 4000 of their parents, grandparents, and friends. Participants reporte

Objective and perceived neighborhood environment, individual SES and psychosocial factors, and self-rated health: an analysis of older adults in Cook County, Illinois.

This article investigates the relationship among objectively assessed neighborhood socio-economic status (SES), subjective perceptions of neighborhood environment, individual SES and psychosocial factors, and self-rated health among middle-aged and older adults. Analysis of data from a representative sample of adults, aged 50-67 years in Cook County, Illinois, shows a significant association between objective neighborhood SES and self-rated health after controlling for age, gender, and race/ethnicity, but the effect is substantially explained by individual SES and neighborhood perceptions. Network connectivity between partner factors, loneliness, and psychological distress in women with unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion.

BACKGROUND: Women experienced unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion (URSA) are at higher risk of depression, anxiety, and other psychological disorders. Although social support showed a protective effect on the mental health among URSA women, little was known about the change and role of partnership among URSA women. METHODS: 151 URSA women and 215 women with healthy childbearing history were recruited. Structured questionnaires to assess participants' partnership (partner support and partner strain), loneliness, and mental health. Weighted ordinary least squares models, parallel mediati

The Relationship Between Economic Deprivation, Housing Instability and Transactional Sex Among Women in North Carolina (HPTN 064).

Transactional sex is associated with socioeconomic disadvantage and HIV risk but few studies in the United States (US) have examined both individual and area-level predictors of transactional sex or distinguished transactional sex from sex work. We combined data from HIV Prevention Trials Network 064 study and the US Census to estimate prevalence ratios (PR) for the relationship between census-level and individual measures of economic deprivation and housing instability on transactional sex in 417 women in North Carolina. Increased transactional sex was associated with food insecurity (PR 1.86

Individual and neighborhood correlates of membership in drug using networks with a higher prevalence of HIV in New York City (2006-2009).

PURPOSE: To identify individual- and neighborhood-level correlates of membership within high HIV prevalence drug networks. METHODS: We recruited 378 New York City drug users via respondent-driven sampling (2006-2009). Individual-level characteristics and recruiter-recruit relationships were ascertained and merged with 2000 tract-level U.S. Census data. Descriptive statistics and population average models were used to identify correlates of membership in high HIV prevalence drug networks (>10.54% vs. <10.54% HIV). RESULTS: Individuals in high HIV prevalence drug networks were more likely to b

Exploring the Associations Between Resilience, Perceived Stress, Academic Expectation Stress, and Depressive Problems Among Adolescents: A Network Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Psychological resilience equips adolescents to manage distress and foster positive development. However, its multidimensional nature and dynamic relationships with stress and mental health make it difficult to identify specific intervention targets. This study used network analysis to examine the relationships between resilience, perceived stress, academic expectation stress, and depressive problems, identify key resilience processes, and explore developmental differences across adolescence. METHODS: An undirected network model was estimated in a sample of 3336 adolescents in Si

Obsessive-Compulsive Symptoms and Other Symptoms of the At-risk Mental State for Psychosis: A Network Perspective.

BACKGROUND: The high prevalence of obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCS) among subjects at Ultra-High Risk (UHR) for psychosis is well documented. However, the network structure spanning the relations between OCS and symptoms of the at risk mental state for psychosis as assessed with the Comprehensive Assessment of At Risk Mental States (CAARMS) has not yet been investigated. This article aimed to use a network approach to investigate the associations between OCS and CAARMS symptoms in a large sample of individuals with different levels of risk for psychosis. METHOD: Three hundred and forty-one

Symptom network connectivity in adolescents with comorbid major depressive disorder and social phobia.

PURPOSE: Major depressive disorder (MDD) and social phobia (SP) are both common and highly co-occurring psychiatric disorders. This study used symptom network analysis approach to examine comorbidity structure and the complex symptom dynamics which may play a role in the co-occurrence of MDD and SP. METHOD: Data comes from the National Comorbidity Survey - Adolescent Supplement, a nationally representative survey of adolescents ages 13 to 18 years. This study examined data of adolescents with a lifetime diagnosis of MDD (n = 597), SP (n = 708), and adolescents with comorbid MDD and SP (n = 18

Classifying patients with depressive and anxiety disorders according to symptom network structures: A Gaussian graphical mixture model-based clustering.

Patients with mental disorders often suffer from comorbidity. Transdiagnostic understandings of mental disorders are expected to provide more accurate and detailed descriptions of psychopathology and be helpful in developing efficient treatments. Although conventional clustering techniques, such as latent profile analysis, are useful for the taxonomy of psychopathology, they provide little implications for targeting specific symptoms in each cluster. To overcome these limitations, we introduced Gaussian graphical mixture model (GGMM)-based clustering, a method developed in mathematical statist

The suicide crisis syndrome: A network analysis.

Recent studies introduced the suicide crisis syndrome (SCS), a condition associated with imminent suicidal behavior and characterized by (a) a pervasive feeling of entrapment in which the escape from an unbearable life situation is perceived as both urgent and impossible (Criterion A) and (b) affective disturbance, loss of cognitive control, hyperarousal, and social withdrawal (Criterion B). The goal of the present study was to use some of the analytic tools provided by network analyses to further the understanding of the psychological, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and physiological proce

Singlehood, stigma and emotional well-being among professional women in Bogotá, Colombia.

Singlehood among professional women remains under-researched in Latin America, where gender norms and family expectations are shaped by distinct sociocultural contexts. This study examines how single professional women aged 30 to 55 in Bogotá, Colombia, experience and make sense of being single. Using a phenomenological and interpretive approach, we conducted three focus groups (n = 13) and combined deductive and inductive thematic analysis. Singlehood emerged as an emotionally significant and fundamentally ambivalent condition, structured by a tension between personal autonomy and gendered so

Long-term consumption of sugar-sweetened beverage during the growth period promotes social aggression in adult mice with proinflammatory responses in the brain.

Overconsumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) is known to be a key contributor to the obesity epidemic; however, its effects on behavioral changes are yet to be fully studied. In the present study, we examined the long-term effects of SSB on social aggression in mice. Three-week-old weaned mice started to drink either a 30 w/v% sucrose solution (S30), plain water (CT), or an aspartame solution with sweetness equivalent to the sucrose solution (A30) and continued to drink until they were 11-week-old adults. Aggressive behaviors were assessed by the resident-intruder test. We found that SS

The development of multisensory integration in high-functioning autism: high-density electrical mapping and psychophysical measures reveal impairments in the processing of audiovisual inputs.

Successful integration of auditory and visual inputs is crucial for both basic perceptual functions and for higher-order processes related to social cognition. Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are characterized by impairments in social cognition and are associated with abnormalities in sensory and perceptual processes. Several groups have reported that individuals with ASD are impaired in their ability to integrate socially relevant audiovisual (AV) information, and it has been suggested that this contributes to the higher-order social and cognitive deficits observed in ASD. However, successful
