The Preserflo MicroShunt Affects Microvascular Flow Density in Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.

Intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering surgery has been shown to alter microvascular density in glaucoma patients. The aim of this study is to report changes in retinal flow density (FD) over the course of treatment with the Preserflo MicroShunt, using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). 34 eyes from 34 patients who underwent Preserflo MicroShunt implantation were prospectively enrolled in this study. OCTA imaging was conducted at the superficial (SCP), deep (DCP) and radial peripapillary plexus (RPC) levels. The progression of FD and IOP was assessed at different time points from ba

Image-Guided Optical Coherence Tomography to Assess Structural Changes in Rodent Retinas.

Ocular diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, and uveitis, are always accompanied by retinal structural changes. These diseases affecting the fundus always exhibit typical abnormalities in certain cell types in the retina, including photoreceptor cells, retinal ganglion cells, cells in the retinal blood vessels, and cells in the choroidal vascular cells. Noninvasive, highly efficient, and adaptable imaging techniques are required for both clinical practice and basic research. Image-guided optical coherence tomography (OCT) satisfies these requiremen

Ex-vivo analysis of demineralisation on irradiated teeth using optical coherence tomography.

Head and neck cancer patients are prone to dental caries after radiotherapy. An ex-vivo study was conducted to assess the feasibility of optical coherence tomography (OCT) to detect tooth demineralization due to caries in irradiated teeth. Thirty-nine human molar teeth were subjected to caries lesion induction through irradiation (Group 1), pH cycling (Group 2-1), and both (Group 2-2). The OCT signal attenuation coefficient, µR was assessed and validated against microhardness test and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The µR for Group 1 increased from 10 Gy to 40 Gy, and subsequently decreas

Anterior segment optical coherence tomography in ocular surface tumours and simulating lesions.

This study aims to systematically review the reported literature on the use of anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) in ocular surface tumours and simulating lesions. A systematic literature search was done using PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases between January 2002 and December 2021. On AS-OCT, ocular surface squamous neoplasia typically demonstrate epithelial thickening, epithelial hyperreflectivity, and an abrupt transition between normal and abnormal epithelium. Conjunctival nevi usually show mildly hyperreflective epithelium of normal thickness, internal hyper

Role of anterior segment optical coherence tomography in scleral diseases: A review.

BACKGROUND: Scleritis and episcleritis are an overlapping spectrum of diseases and accurate diagnosis is of utmost importance as the treatment and prognosis are vastly different. Predominantly a clinical diagnosis, the challenge lies in those cases with equivocal clinical features. Furthermore, clinical grading of scleritis is subjective and hence is neither very reliable nor reproducible. Existing modalities such as slit lamp examination and clinical photographs in scleritis describe macroanatomy but do not provide details on the microanatomy of the sclera. A recent adjusted algorithm for ant
