Use of optical coherence tomography to predict visual outcome in parachiasmal meningioma.

OBJECT: The authors investigated the value of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in predicting visual outcome after surgery for parachiasmal meningioma. METHODS: Forty-nine eyes of 25 patients who underwent craniotomy and resection of a parachiasmal meningioma were analyzed retrospectively. Visual parameters including visual field (VF) (recorded as the mean deviation [MD]), visual acuity (VA), and RNFL thickness (via optical coherence tomography) were measured before and 1 week, 6 months, and 1 year after surgery. Postoperative visual outcome was compared among the patients with a thi

Retinal topography of myopic eyes: a spectral-domain optical coherence tomography study.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate topographic characteristics of the retina in myopic eyes. METHODS: We reviewed spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) images of patients with myopia retrospectively. Retinal topography (RT) was defined as the topography of the retinal pigment epithelium layers. Retinal topographies were classified into several types, and the distribution and characteristics of each type were assessed in eyes with varying degrees of axial length (AL). RESULTS: A total of 167 subjects with myopia were included in this study. Seventy eyes (41.

[Diagnostic evaluation of sarcoid choroidal granuloma using high-penetration optical coherence tomography].

OBJECTIVES: We report a case of sarcoidosis that manifested as choroidal granuloma. We followed the treatment-associated changes in the granulomatous lesion by serial examinations using high-penetration optical coherence tomography (HP-OCT). CASE: A 77-year-old woman, who was referred to our clinic with granulomatous uveitis, presented initially with a yellowish-white subretinal granuloma formation surrounding the left optic disk. On presentation, diffuse keratic precipitates, anterior chamber inflammation and snowball-like vitreous opacity were observed. The HP-OCT image of subretinal lesion

Optical coherence tomography following percutaneous coronary intervention with Excimer laser coronary atherectomy.

The indications for Excimer laser coronary atherectomy (ELCA) have been refined in modern interventional practice. With the expanding role for optical coherence tomography (OCT) providing high-resolution intra-coronary imaging, this article examines the appearance of the coronary lumen after ELCA. Each indication for ELCA is discussed and illustrated with a clinical case, followed by detailed analysis of the OCT imaging pre and post ELCA. The aim of the article is to provide information to interventional cardiologists to facilitate decision making during PCI, when ELCA has been used as part of

Quantitative single and multi-surface clinical corneal topography utilizing optical coherence tomography.

Successful surgical treatment of ocular astigmatism requires accurate characterization of both magnitude and axis of the astigmatism. Keratometry and topography are clinically widely used for this measurement; however, their analysis is limited to the anterior corneal surface. Unlike these techniques, optical coherence tomography (OCT) offers the advantage of measuring both the anterior and posterior corneal surface contributions. We present a technique to combine the local curvatures of both surfaces into a single pseudosurface suitable for clinical application. Building on prior work in dist

Macular spectral domain optical coherence tomography findings in Tanzanian endemic optic neuropathy.

Bilateral optic neuropathy in Dar es Salaam is now considered endemic and is estimated to affect 0.3-2.4% of young adults. The condition is characterized by a subacute bilateral loss of central vision of unknown aetiology. Findings of spectral domain optical coherence tomography have not previously been reported for these patients. All patients diagnosed with endemic optic neuropathy over a 2-year period at the Muhimbili National Hospital underwent spectral domain optical coherence tomography macular imaging. Scans were graded qualitatively for severity of retinal nerve fibre layer loss as wel
