INTRODUCTION: The urethra is a recommended avoidance structure for prostate cancer treatment. However, even subspecialist physicians often struggle to accurately identify it on available imaging. Automated segmentation tools show promise, but a lack of reliable ground truth or appropriate evaluation standards has hindered validation and clinical adoption. This study aims to establish a reference-standard dataset with expert consensus contours, define clinically meaningful evaluation metrics, and assess the performance and generalizability of a deep-learning-based segmentation model.

Primary lymphoma of the male urethra is exceptionally rare. A 46-year-old man complained of low back pain, hematuria, and dysuria. Cystourethroscopy revealed a pale, annular thickening of the urethral mucosa. A biopsy revealed that the patient had diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Before treatment, an 18 F-FDG PET/CT was used for staging. The urethra and left inguinal lymph nodes showed increased FDG uptake. The patient was then diagnosed with primary urethral lymphoma that had invaded the left inguinal lymph node.

PURPOSE: For ventral buccal mucosa graft onlay during bulbar urethroplasty, spongioplasty with advancement and closure of the corpus spongiosum is ordinarily performed to stabilize the graft. In the pendulous and distal bulbar urethra the spongiosum is often too thin to allow complete graft coverage. A 52-year-old man underwent nephroureterectomy against left distal ureteral cancer (transitional cell carcinoma, Grade 2, pTa), and was followed up by surveillance alone. We report on false passages arising from the posterior urethra in 10 male spinal cord injury patients, of which 9 were well visualized on transrectal sonography, with real-time linear array equipment that was used to monitor a urodynamics catheter being introduced into the prostatic urethra. The only false passage not detected was at the bladder neck. Nevertheless the data show that transrectal sonography is an excellent tool to demonstrate false passages arising from the prostatic urethra. All 10 false passages were unroofed successfully with excellent results.
