Repeated photobiological regulation therapy alleviates inflammation in mice with experimental acute pancreatitis through ROS/NF-κB pathway.

The prevalence of acute pancreatitis (AP) is increasing, but current treatments remain inadequate. Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects under various conditions; however, its role in AP has not been explored. Evaluating this could introduce a noninvasive treatment option for AP. This study aimed to assess PBM’s potential of PBM in reducing cerulein-induced AP inflammation and elucidate the underlying mechanisms. Animal Experiment: Mice were categorized into control, model, and experimental groups. AP was induced with cerulein injections in depilated mice,

Stress Dynamics in a Basketball Game: Examining Stressors, Game-Specific Factors, and Players' Positions.

Background: This study investigates the psychophysiological stress profiles of professional basketball players by simultaneously analyzing two distinct neuroendocrine pathways: the sympathetic-adrenal-medullary (SAM) system, via salivary alpha-amylase (AA), and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, via salivary cortisol (C). While competitive environments are known to elicit significant stress, the interaction between game-specific variables-such as playing time (PT) and tactical position-and those biomarkers remains insufficiently explored in real-time, official match settings. Nutraceutical resources for diabetes prevention--an update.

There is considerable need for safe agents that can reduce risk for diabetes in at-risk subjects. Although certain drugs--including metformin, acarbose, and orlistat--have shown diabetes-preventive activity in large randomized studies, nutraceuticals have potential in this regard as well. Natural agents which slow carbohydrate absorption may mimic the protective effect of acarbose; these include: soluble fiber--most notably glucomannan; chlorogenic acid--likely responsible for reduction in diabetes risk associated with heavy coffee intake; and legume-derived alpha-amylase inhibitors. There doe

[The effects of solid or liquified diet on the submandibular glands of mice with age].

The influence of properties of the diets on the retardation of growth of the jaw bones and masticatory muscles has been established. As the intake of liquid foodstuffs increases in the human diet, it is considered possible that these liquid diets may retard the growth of human salivary glands. 180 newborn C3H/He strain male mice were divided into solid and liquid diet groups and then the development and aging of the submandibular glands were observed both in function and morphologically until 60 weeks of age. The following results were obtained: 1. No differences could be detected in body leng

Prolonged Extreme Cold Water Diving and the Acute Stress Response During Military Dive Training.

Introduction: Cold water exposure poses a unique physiological challenge to the human body. Normally, water submersion increases activation of parasympathetic tone to induce bradycardia in order to compensate for hemodynamic shifts and reduce oxygen consumption by peripheral tissues. However, elevated stress, such as that which may occur due to prolonged cold exposure, may shift the sympatho-vagal balance towards sympathetic activation which may potentially negate the dive reflex and impact thermoregulation. Objective: To quantify the acute stress response during prolonged extreme cold water d

Fatigue, Stress, and Performance during Alternating Physical and Cognitive Tasks-Effects of the Temporal Pattern of Alternations.

In occupational life, performing cognitive work tasks in between fatiguing physical work tasks may allow recovery and reduce stress without losing productive working time. The temporal pattern of such alternations is likely a determinant of the recovery effect, influencing both stress and fatigue; the difficulty of the cognitive task (CT) would also be a likely determinant. The aim of this study was to determine to what extent the temporal pattern of alternations between a repetitive physical task and a CT of different difficulties influenced perceived fatigability, performance fatigability, s

Endotoxin-induced acute lung injury and organ dysfunction are attenuated by pentobarbital anaesthesia.

1. Acute lung injury (ALI) as a result of sepsis is a major cause of mortality. Certain anaesthetic agents have been reported to suppress pro-inflammatory cytokines and inducible nitric oxide (NO) synthase (iNOS) activities. We investigated the effects of pentobarbital on ALI and organ functions after the administration of endotoxin. 2. Intravenous (i.v.) pentobarbital (20 or 40 mg/kg) was administered 5 min after lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 10 or 30 mg/kg via i.v. infusion). To avoid hypoxia and/or hypercapnia following anaesthesia, we installed a special chamber connected to a rodent ventilator

Rebamipide contributes to reducing adverse effects of long-term administration of omeprazole in rats.

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) have become of great importance for the treatment of peptic ulcer disease and gastroesophageal reflux disease. However, these drugs have several adverse effects, including worsening of corpus atrophic gastritis in patients with H. pylori infection, various histological changes including fundic gland-type polyps, inhibition of glycoprotein production, and hypergastrinemia. On the other hand, it has been reported that rebamipide, a gastroprotective drug, has the potential to increase mucous secretion and basically regulate physiological defensive functions aimed to

Functional-Diet Potential of Black Cumin-Enriched Acha-Based Cookies on Plasmodium berghei-Infected Diabetic Mice.

The prevalence of diabetes and malaria remains high in developing countries despite remarkable progress in the health sector. Functional food remedies with acha grains and black cumin have been used locally to treat/manage type 2 diabetes (T2D) and malaria separately. However, this study sought to assess the comorbidity and the ameliorative potential of black cumin-enriched acha-based cookies in Plasmodium berghei infection in diabetic mice. High-fat diet fed mice of 20-25 g were grouped into eight groups (n = 8), while a single dose of streptozotocin (35 mg/kg) was intraperitoneally administe
