The Effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapy Combined with Biofeedback Electrical Stimulation on Postpartum Stress Urinary Incontinence: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the improvement effect of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy combined with biofeedback electrical stimulation on postpartum stress urinary incontinence through a meta-analysis, so as to provide a more reliable evidence-based basis for clinical treatment. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted in eight databases, including CNKI, WanFang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Embase, for randomized controlled studies published from the establishment of the database until March 2025. Mean difference (MD), risk ratio (RR), and 95% confide

Biosound Therapy as a treatment for long COVID patients: A pre-post pilot study.

BACKGROUND: 43 % of people who are diagnosed with COVID-19 will experience persistent symptoms, also known as "long COVID," which lasts past the recovery of the acute infection. Long COVID symptoms overlap with symptoms that the Biosound Therapy System (BTS) has been shown to improve. The BTS is a multimodal treatment that includes biofeedback, vibroacoustic therapy synchronized with music that plays binaural beats, and video content. This study aimed to determine feasibility for a future full-scale Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) and explore the impact of the BTS on long COVID symptoms. ME

Headache: Tension-Type Headache.

Tension-type headache (TTH) is the most common primary headache disorder, with a worldwide lifetime prevalence of 46% to 78%. TTH causes greater disability and accounts for more missed work days than migraine. The etiology of TTH is thought to be multifactorial, involving genetic and environmental factors. The three subtypes of TTH are infrequent episodic, frequent episodic, and chronic. Patients typically describe headache pain as pressing, dull, and with the sensation of a tight band around the head. Nonprescription analgesics are indicated for management of episodic TTH. Prophylaxis should

The Effect of Biofeedback Therapy on Anorectal Function After the Reversal of Temporary Stoma When Administered During the Temporary Stoma Period in Rectal Cancer Patients With Sphincter-Saving Surgery: The Interim Report of a Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial.

We evaluated the effect of biofeedback therapy (BFT) on anorectal function after stoma closure when administered during the interval of temporary stoma after sphincter-preserving surgery for rectal cancer.Impaired anorectal function is common after lower anterior resections, though no specific treatment options are currently available to prevent this adverse outcome.Fifty-six patients who underwent neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy after sphincter-preserving surgery with temporary stoma were randomized into 2 groups: group 1 (received BFT during the temporary stoma period) and group 2 (did no

Efficacy of biofeedback plus transanal stimulation in the management of pelvic floor dyssynergia: a randomized trial.

BACKGROUND: The therapy of pelvic floor dyssynergia is mostly conservative and is based on a high-fiber diet, physical activity and biofeedback training. Our aim was to compare the outcome of biofeedback (manometric-assisted pelvic relaxation and simulated defecation training) plus transanal electrostimulation with standard therapy (diet, exercise, laxatives). METHODS: Clinical, physiologic and quality of life [patient assessment of constipation quality of life (PAC-QOL)] measures, anorectal manometry and balloon expulsion test results were collected prospectively at baseline, at the end of t

Using ultrasound visual biofeedback to treat persistent primary speech sound disorders.

Growing evidence suggests that speech intervention using visual biofeedback may benefit people for whom visual skills are stronger than auditory skills (for example, the hearing-impaired population), especially when the target articulation is hard to describe or see. Diagnostic ultrasound can be used to image the tongue and has recently become more compact and affordable leading to renewed interest in it as a practical, non-invasive visual biofeedback tool. In this study, we evaluate its effectiveness in treating children with persistent speech sound disorders that have been unresponsive to tr

Biofeedback therapy for defecatory dysfunction: "real life" experience.

BACKGROUND: Biofeedback therapy (BF) is a well-established treatment modality for patients with dyssynergic defecation and fecal incontinence (FI). Randomized controlled trials from highly specialized tertiary care centers report response rates of 70% to 80% for dyssynergic defecation and 55% to 75% for FI. Whether this therapy is as successful outside of clinical trials or specialized biofeedback referral centers remains unclear. AIM: Our primary aim was to determine what percentage of patients referred for BF actually complete therapy and identify barriers to treatment. Our secondary aim wa

Multidimensional control using a mobile-phone based brain-muscle-computer interface.

Many well-known brain-computer interfaces measure signals at the brain, and then rely on the brain's ability to learn via operant conditioning in order to control objects in the environment. In our lab, we have been developing brain-muscle-computer interfaces, which measure signals at a single muscle and then rely on the brain's ability to learn neuromuscular skills via operant conditioning. Here, we report a new mobile-phone based brain-muscle-computer interface prototype for severely paralyzed persons, based on previous results from our group showing that humans may actively create specified

Gait retraining to reduce the knee adduction moment through real-time visual feedback of dynamic knee alignment.

Varus knee alignment is a risk factor for medial knee osteoarthritis and is associated with high knee adduction moments. Therefore, reducing the knee adduction moment in varus-aligned individuals with otherwise healthy knees may reduce their risk for developing osteoarthritis. A gait modification that improves dynamic knee alignment may reduce the adduction moment, and systematic training may lead to more natural-feeling and less effortful execution of this pattern. To test these hypotheses, eight healthy, varus-aligned individuals underwent a gait modification protocol. Real-time feedback of

Influence of continual biofeedback on jaw pursuit-tracking in healthy adults and in adults with apraxia plus aphasia.

Apraxia of speech (AOS) is a disorder of motor programming resulting from damage to premotor or anterior insula cortex. The authors used a pursuit visuomotor tracking task to test whether such a disorder interferes with development of motor programs or with modification of existing programs via integration of feedback. Healthy older adults (n = 15) and adults with AOS plus aphasia and nonverbal apraxia (n = 8) performed a jaw movement task with (a) continuous visual feedback of a target movement pattern and their jaw movement and (b) no feedback. Healthy speakers were more accurate and less va

Clinical trial of exercise for shoulder pain in chronic spinal injury.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The high prevalence of shoulder pain in wheelchair users may be related to the repetitive use of the upper limbs during self-care and wheelchair-related activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a controlled 8-week, scapula-focused exercise intervention on pain and functional disability in people with spinal cord injury (SCI) and shoulder impingement symptoms. SUBJECTS: Forty-one manual wheelchair users (with SCI and spina bifida), both with (n=21) and without (n=20) shoulder impingement symptoms, participated. METHODS: The study design was

[Neurofeedback in therapy of tinnitus].

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Biofeedback is known as a possibility to control physiologic processes like body temperature or heart frequency. Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback linked to aspects of the electrical activity of the brain such as frequency, location or amplitude of specific EEG activity. It has been successfully used in patients with closed head injury, hyperactivity disorder or epilepsy. PATIENTS/METHODS: In this study 40 patients with tinnitus were treated with neurofeedback. They trained to upregulate the amplitude of their alpha-activity and downregulate the amplitude of beta

[Biofeedback. I. Current status of its clinical application].

The aim of this article is to restate the question of the clinical application of biofeedback and its prospects after having defined it. After the huge success that biofeedback has known, some decantation is occurring. One is stricken by the absence of methodological closeness of too many studies, in this field, which very much limits the conclusions one can make presently. The best and most reliable results have been obtained by the biofeedback training of electromyogramme (elimination of subvocalization in reading, direct paralyzed muscles training, tension headaches treatment). The results

[PSYCHO-MEDICAL ASPECTS OF PRIMARY HEADACHES].

BACKGROUND: Primary headaches such as migraine and tension type headaches are extremely common and present a significant clinical challenge. These conditions involve a complex interaction between biological and psychological processes. As part of a "vicious cycle" effect, primary headaches can be deleterious to patients, causing stress, anxiety and catastrophization, while at the same time becoming exacerbated by those very same cognitive and emotional states. OBJECTIVES: Medications often have a limited effect in treating chronic primary headache. Additionally, there are a number of sub-popu

[Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation and functional constipation in adults: Treatment (Part 2 of 2)].

In this Clinical practice guide we examine the diagnostic and therapeutic management of adult patients with constipation and abdominal discomfort, at the confluence of the spectrum of irritable bowel syndrome and functional constipation. Both fall within the framework of functional intestinal disorders and have major personal, health and social impact, altering the quality of life of the patients affected. The former is a subtype of irritable bowel syndrome in which constipation and altered bowel habit predominate, often along with recurring abdominal pain, bloating and abdominal distension. C
