BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Occult germ cell neoplasia in situ (GCNIS) can occur in testicular biopsies prompted by male infertility with or without concomitant contralateral tumour. Immunohistochemistry can improve the diagnostic yield of GCNIS. The objective of this long-spanned retrospective single institutional series is to assess the value of OCT3/4 reflex testing on the detection of GCNIS.

RATIONALE: Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is an endocrine malignancy with poor prognosis, which commonly arises in a sporadic manner, but may also become a part of a familial syndrome. ACC rarely arises simultaneously with other malignant tumors.

Peritoneal carcinomatosis and metastatic involvement of the retroperitoneum are relatively common manifestations of many organ-based malignancies and lymphoproliferative disorders. We report a unique case of metastatic malignant teratoma from an undescended testis which presented with acute pulmonary embolism. After chemotherapy, the undescended right testicle was resected along with a cord of non- obstructing inferior venal caval tumour which extended into the right atrium with tumour floating free within the atrium at the end of the cord of tumour. The presentation, diagnosis and treatment of testicular tumours is described and the literature pertaining to testicular tumours in military personnel reviewed.

The growth of presomite mouse embryos in culture was studied using mouse Ehrlich ascites tumor fluid and bovine serum albumin as supplements to the tissue culture medium. The best development was observed with a mixture of 10-20% ascites fluid and 2% bovine serum albumin. During 48 h of culture under these conditions, embryos grew from egg cylinders to complex structures with neural folds and other organ rudiments. This chapter introduces the macroscopic and light microscopic features of testicular germ cell tumors (GCT) commonly encountered in clinical practice. Accurate diagnosis of these histologically diverse neoplasms is essential not only for clinical management but also for serving as the basis for interpretation of research findings. We will focus on general histopathologic concepts and discuss the use of immunohistochemistry (IHC) as an aid to the diagnosis.

Five cases of cancer of the testicle in patients with cryptorchidism are presented. In one case the tumour occurred 16 years after cure for cryptorchidism at 15 years of age. In the other cases, the tumour developed on a testicle in an inguinal or intra-abdominal position.
