Ectopic eruption of teeth into a region other than the oral cavity is rare although there have been reports of teeth in the nasal septum, mandibular condyle, coronoid process, palate, chin and maxillary sinus. Occasionally, a tooth may erupt in the maxillary sinus and present with local sinonasal symptoms attributed to chronic sinusitis. We present a case of an ectopic maxillary third molar tooth that caused chronic purulent sinusitis in relation to the right maxillary sinus.

A case of extrahepatic biliary atresia (EBA) associated with trisomy 18 is presented. A 1-month-old boy was suspected to have Alagille syndrome with obstructive jaundice, a systolic heart murmur, growth retardation, and a small, pointed chin. However, surgery and chromosomal analysis revealed EBA associated with trisomy 18. Chromosomal examination must be performed in patients with jaundice and congenital anomalies. It is possible that EBA in trisomy 18 syndrome is due to a chromosomal disorder.

Many different methods achieve male facial augmentation. Arranged from shorter- to longer-term results, these methods include filler, fat/tissue grafting, fat/tissue transposition, and alloplastic implants. This study solely reviews allografts, which provide the most predictable hard-tissue augmentation. An array of alloplasts will be discussed in this study including chin, cheek, mandibular angle, frontal, and temporal implants. The most common and severe complications will also be explored with preventative and treatment algorithms.

Difficult tracheal intubation is a rare event according to the airway feature in child. This situation is mostly predictable, occurring in identified malformations and in specific diseases. Pre-operative clinical evaluation must detect facial abnormalities (lip or palate cleft, microtia, facial asymmetry.), micro or retrognathia, limited mouth opening, reduced distance between thyroid cartilage and chin, macroglossia and external ear malformations. According to this clinical evaluation, a strategy for managing difficult tracheal intubation is planned.

Medical treatment for a frigore facial paralysis should be instituted promptly, within 48 hours of the appearance of symptoms. Principally, to reduce oedema or oedematous neuropathy (which is what Bell's palsy is), treatment should include:--corticoids, --vaso-dilators. --1 p. 100 xylocaine infiltrations (superficial temporal artery, stylomastoid foramen, where chin branches cross the facial pedicle), --kinesitherapy. Results can be judged by the seventh day. In case of failure, surgery has to be resorted to.

Two male patients presented with painless vision loss to blindness in one eye, and the radiography examinations revealed an intraocular mass suspicious for choroidal melanoma. They underwent enucleation. The histopathological and immunohistochemical findings were compatible with the diagnosis of intraocular perivascular epithelioid cell tumor. Because of its rarity, intraocular perivascular epithelioid cell tumor is easy to be confused with other intraocular tumors on histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations. A 61-year-old edentulous patient presented with dental problems. Examination revealed a very narrow alveolar process in the symphysis area of the chin, with moderate vertical resorption. The decision was made for bone augmentation by means of harvesting an autologous bone graft from the alveolar process. This method can be carried out in an outpatient or day surgery unit and is much more cost effective and less invasive than harvesting an autologous bone graft from the hip area.

We present a case of a female Ecuadorian patient who presented a deep facial burn injury complicated with a severe infestation of Dermatobia Hominis larvae. The burn injury was complicated by severe myiasis attributable to the poor management of the wound received at home, using tropical plants, which caused a secondary infection and severe necrosis of the tissue involving the forehead, cheeks, chin, scalp, nose, mouth and the eyes resulting in a bilateral enucleation and long inpatient hospital care.

A six-year-old boy presented with extraoral eruption of a mandibular permanent canine and a loosely attached lateral incisor in the labial vestibule, 3 months following trauma to the chin. The trauma not only caused displacement of the permanent tooth buds, but also resulted in transposition of the lateral incisor and canine with subsequent ectopic eruption. The case is presented to demonstrate one of the infrequent complications of trauma involving the unerupted tooth buds of permanent teeth and its unusual clinical presentation.

Postmenopausal acne originates at or after menopause in darker-skinned, formerly oily-skinned, large-pored women who usually did not experience adolescent acne. It is a low-grade, long-smoldering acne in which small closed comedones are dominant, among which there is a scattering of dimunitive papulopustules. There is a seeming association with chin and upper lip hirsutism. Topical tretinoin is an effective therapy. Unopposed adrenal androgens present after ovarian failure may be the chief causes of this condition.

Primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) is the most common type of glaucoma in China. In recent years, lens extraction has gradually become one of the main means of PACG treatment. However, there are still some problems in specific applications. The aim of this study was to compare the postoperative complications during genioplasty using piezosurgery devices or traditional rotating drills. Forty patients underwent genioplasty to solve their chin anomalies. This study showed that, using piezosurgery, pain and swelling were reduced compared to the traditional technique in the immediate postoperative period of healing (within 15 days). Paresthesia was observed in all patients up to 15th postoperative day, independently of the used surgical technique, but at the sixth postoperative month it was completely absent.

Congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) is a rare congenital musculoskeletal disorder characterized by unilateral shortening of the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM). It presents in newborn infants or young children with reported incidence ranging from 0.3% to 2%. Owing to effective shortening of SCM on the involved side there is ipsilateral head tilt and contralateral rotation of the face and chin. This article reports a case of CMT in a 3½-year-old male child successfully managed by surgical release of the involved SCM followed by physiotherapy.

Genioplasty has been a useful and frequently employed technique in the aesthetic facial surgeon's armamentarium. However, as the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea becomes more apparent and its diagnosis more frequent, genioplasty has also evolved to a commonly performed procedure for reconstruction of the upper airway. This article discusses patient evaluation and surgical techniques used in aesthetic and functional surgery of the chin. Because these topics have been discussed extensively in the literature, this will serve as a synopsis of current techniques.

Cutaneous sinuses may arise from chronic dental infections. These sinus tracts usually appear as suppurative lesions of the chin or neck. Diagnosis is made by palpating the lesion and by radiologic examination demonstrating periapical dental abscess. Treatment with dental extraction or root canal results in resorption of the inflammatory fistula. Since many patients with sinus tracts of dental origin do not have any complaints of tooth or mouth pain, the correct diagnosis may be overlooked by the unsuspecting clinician.

Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) is the most common cause of acute optic neuropathy in people aged 50 and above. The precise mechanism of NAION remains unclear and no consistently effective treatment, either medical or surgical method, for NAION has been identified. Thus, further study of the pathogenesis, higher research level of the treatment trail and the effective neuroprotective approaches are of significant importance for the treatment of NAION. A de novo del (13) (q33) was found in a 14-month-old boy with hypospadias. Phenotype anomalies included growth retardation, psychomotor retardation (QD = 64), microcephaly with brachycephaly, a round, flat and asymmetrical facies, a normal nose bridge, a small, pointed chin. The patient is heterozygous ESD 2-1. The gene localization may thus be excluded from bands 13q33 and q34 and assigned to bands q31 or q32, if its previous assignment to the q3 region is confirmed.
