INTRODUCTION: Human sclera grafts are widely used in ophthalmic surgery. Mainly they are used for coating orbital implants after enucleation.
METHODS: For the preparation of sclera grafts, all other tissues must be removed from the donor bulb including the retina, choroid, cornea, corpus vitreum and lens. The sclera graft can be stored dry or in ethanol until transplantation.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The processing of sclera grafts in an eye bank is easy to handle compared to the complexity of cornea transplants. The common way is dry storing for at least 1 year. Thus, the demand for sclera g

Between September 1979 and December 1985, 124 eyes of 105 patients underwent vitrectomy for diabetic eye disease. Until May 1987 (mean follow-up of 3.2 +/- 0.3 years) neovascular glaucoma (NVG) occurred in 21 eyes (17%); in 18 of them within the first post-operative year. Post-operative total retinal detachment (P = 0.0003) and pre- and/or per-operative aphakia (P = 0.0047) proved to be significant independent risk factors for post-operative NVG (odds ratio 9.9 and 4.6, respectively). We report the clinical course and pathologic findings in a case of intraocular sclerosing inflammatory pseudotumor in a 21-year-old man. The patient initially had a unilateral right interstitial keratitis, scleritis, uveitis, ciliary body mass, and retinal detachment. PURPOSE: To report a case of severe Acanthamoeba sclerokeratitis.
METHODS: A 70-year-old male non-contact lens wearer was examined for severe pain in the left eye which began about 40 days after cataract surgery. In spite of a careful search, it required 6 weeks to detect Acanthamoeba. Systemic and topical fluconazol and miconazol did not help and the keratitis progressed into necrotic sclerokeratitis with protrusion of uveal tissue through the thin sclera.
RESULTS: Those findings slowly got worse before the Acanthamoeba sclerokeratitis resolved 6 months later with scar formation.

PURPOSE: The increasing occurrence of neoplastic metastases to the eye encouraged us to present our own observation on this topic.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We have examined 17 patients with metastatic tumors of the eye (in 6 cases there was bilateral involvement). The group included 11 females and 6 males, aged 43 to 69 years. The most common primary tumor was breast carcinoma (9 women-13 eyes); then cancers of lung (4 men), gastrointestinal tract (2 women-3 eyes), maxillary sinus (1 case); and malignant lymphoma (1 case). In 5 patients the eye was enucleated because of secondary glaucoma.

Ciliary body adenocarcinomas are well-recognized tumors in dogs; however, invasion of the lens by the tumor has not been described in veterinary species. Evaluation of the right eye of a 10-year-old Labrador Retriever revealed a ciliary body mass spanning from the 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock position that was impinging on the lens. The morphology of vitreous membranes from enucleated human eyes containing vitreous haemorrhage was studied by electron microscopy. Three types of membrane are described, based on their cellular composition: haematogenous, fibroblastic and neovascular. CASE DESCRIPTION: 6 dogs (10 eyes) with keratitis following long-term topical treatment with a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor (CAI) were evaluated. In 4 dogs (6 eyes), CAI treatment was discontinued.
