Concussion syndrome is a common disease in neurosurgery, and its incidence ranks first among all traumatic brain injuries. Cognitive dysfunction is one of the most common functional impairments in concussion syndrome. Neuroimaging and content assessments on concussion patients and healthy control subjects are used in this study, which uses MRI technology to evaluate brain pictures of concussion patients. Moreover, this paper separately evaluates the scores of the concussion syndrome group and the healthy control group in multiple functional aspects and performs independent sample t-test after

Before performing neurosurgery, an exhaustive presurgical assessment is required, usually including an investigation of language cerebral lateralization. Among the available procedures, the intracarotid amobarbital test (IAT) was formerly the most widely used. However, this procedure has many limitations: it is invasive and potentially traumatic, especially for children. To overcome these limitations, neuroimaging techniques such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) have been used. Again, these methods are difficult to use with children, who must remain motionless during data acquis

This article reviews the four ways by which large-scale, neurobiologically realistic modeling can be used in conjunction with functional neuroimaging data, especially that obtained by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and positron emission tomography (PET), to help investigators understand the neural bases for sensorimotor and cognitive functions. The conceptually distinct purposes served are:(1) formulating and implementing specific hypotheses about how neuronal populations mediate a task, which will be illustrated using models of visual and auditory object processing; (2) determin…

With our focus on Alzheimer's disease (AD) and cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), the authors herein provided a comprehensive overview of impaired amyloid beta and tau clearance pathways observed through advanced neuroimaging techniques such as dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging, arterial spin labeling, phase contrast MR imaging, PET, and functional MR imaging. The findings suggest the role of impaired degradation clearance, blood-brain barrier clearance, perivascular clearance, glymphatic system clearance, and cerebrospinal fluid dynamics in AD and CAA pathogenesis.

The psychedelic experience has been reported since antiquity, but there is relatively little known about the underlying neural mechanisms. A recent neuroimaging study on psilocybin revealed a pattern of decreased cerebral blood flow and functional disconnections that is surprisingly similar to that caused by various anesthetics. In this article, the authors review historical examples of psychedelic experiences induced by general anesthetics and then contrast the mechanisms by which these two drug classes generate altered states of consciousness.

BACKGROUND: For many years, clinicians have been seeking for objective pain assessment solutions via neuroimaging techniques, focusing on the brain to detect human pain. Unfortunately, most of those techniques are not applicable in the clinical environment or lack accuracy.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to test the feasibility of a mobile neuroimaging-based clinical augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) framework, CLARAi, for objective pain detection and also localization direct from the patient's brain in real time.
METHODS: Clinical dental pain was triggered in 21 patients

One of the primary goals of individualized treatment rule (ITR) methodology is to identify optimal decision rules using clinical predictors. While functional data has become increasingly available in biomedical research, there has been limited work on incorporating functional data into ITR estimation, particularly in observational studies. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that integrates outcome-weighted learning (OWL) with reproducing kernel Hilbert space to determine optimal treatment regimes involving functional data. Furthermore, to address the issue of data piling, we employ the

Tension-type headache (TTH) is a widespread primary headache disorder that causes mild to moderate pain, which may be seen together with cognitive deficits. It is unclear if TTH-linked cognitive impairment is associated with functional alterations. Seventy-five participants were enrolled in the study. Mini Mental State Evaluation (MMSE) and Montreal Cognition Assessment (MoCA) tests were applied to evaluate cognitive impairment. A neuroimaging analysis was applied to determine whether the hippocampus responsible for pain and cognition was affected in TTH patients. Our functional data revealed

Dyslexia is a neurobiological learning disability, reflected through deficits in written (i.e. reading) but not in spoken language. Since written and spoken language rely on cognitive control abilities, we aimed to compare functional connectivity of the understudied salience network which is related to cognitive control in children with dyslexia vs. typical readers during a functional MRI narrative comprehension task. Although children with dyslexia showed similar comprehension levels as typical readers, neuroimaging data revealed children with dyslexia showed significantly decreased functiona

BACKGROUND: Staging vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) might be useful for sample selection in clinical trials and for guiding clinical decision-making. Clinical dementia rating (CDR) has been applied for staging cognitive impairments of different etiologies, but it may underestimate severity of non-Alzheimer's disease cognitive deficits.
METHODS: Out of a total of 147 elderly subjects, 23 (mean age: 72.95 ± 7.51 years; 56% female; mean schooling: 9.52 ± 5.11 years) fulfilled clinical and neuroimaging criteria for VCI. Correlations among cognitive and functional status and scores in CDR and

While the fear-based anxiety disorders (i.e., generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia and separation anxiety disorder) are among the most common psychiatric conditions in children and adolescents, only recently has an integrated understanding of the neurobiology of these disorders developed. In this regard, both structural and functional neuroimaging studies have demonstrated neuroanatomic and functional abnormalities within the amygdala and prefrontal cortex in youth with fear-based anxiety disorders, and have also suggested altered functional connectivity among components of the anterior…

Researchers increasingly have access to neuroimaging data with repeated measures within subjects. Linear mixed-effects modeling offers a valuable way to analyze such data, but its application remains limited in the neuroimaging literature due to high computational cost and a lack of mainstream analysis packages. Here we benchmark a recently published algorithm, the Fast and Efficient Mixed-Effects Algorithm (FEMA), against a conventional implementation (MATLAB's fitlme, restricted maximum likelihood) across 94,830 functional connectivity edges. In contrast to the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Dev

FMR1 premutation is defined by 55-200 CGG repeats in the Fragile X Mental Retardation 1 (FMR1) gene. FMR1 premutation carriers are at risk of developing a neurodegenerative disease called fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome (FXTAS) and Fragile X-associated primary ovarian insufficiency (FXPOI) in adulthood. In the last years an increasingly board spectrum of clinical manifestations including psychiatric disorders have been described as occurring at a greater frequency among FMR1 premutation carriers. Herein, we reviewed the neuroimaging findings reported in relation with psychiatric sy
