A case of successful endoscopic papillotomy with the Nd YAG laser in a patient with choledocholithiasis after partial stomach resection is reported. This new technique is a complementary alternative for papillotomy when high-frequency diathermy is not suitable.

To determine the risk of bacteremia, 53 patients had blood collected for culture before and five, ten and 15 minutes following fiberoptic endoscopy of the upper digestive tract. One patient had transient bacteremia with Acinetobacter Sp. five minutes after endoscopy. Combining our study with four others, 447 patients have been evaluated of which 6% had bacteremia after upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. A 69-year-old man was hospitalized for elective surgical resection of a huge asymptomatic mass at the gastric antrum. The mass was initially discovered incidentally on routine chest computed tomography (CT) 15 months prior to admission. We present the clinical case of a 39-year-old woman with a medical history of juvenile idiopathic arthritis and uveitis, evaluated for abdominal pain and distension, difficulty gaining weight, and diarrhea.
