Comparison of the effects of different general anesthesia methods on the quality of early postoperative recovery in patients undergoing metabolic bariatric surgery: A randomized controlled trial.

The optimal choice of general anesthesia technique for patients with obesity remains the subject of debate. At present, the anesthesia methods widely applied in clinical settings mainly consist of propofol-based intravenous anesthesia and sevoflurane-based inhalation anesthesia. For patients undergoing metabolic bariatric surgery, there is limited evaluation data concerning the overall recovery effect, and the conclusions are varied. This study aims to explore the difference between intravenous anesthesia and inhalation anesthesia in terms of the quality of early postoperative recovery in pati

The efficacy and safety of an adapted opioid-free anesthesia regimen versus conventional general anesthesia in gynecological surgery for low-resource settings: a randomized pilot study.

INTRODUCTION: There is scarce data on the safety and efficacy of opioid-free anesthesia (OFA), in resource-limited settings due to the non-availability of dexmedetomidine, the reference OFA agent. We aimed to demonstrate the feasibility, efficacy and safety of a practical OFA protocol not containing dexmedetomidine, adapted for low-resource environments in very painful surgeries like gynecological surgery. METHODS: We conducted a randomized pilot study on ASA I and II women undergoing elective gynecological surgery at a tertiary care hospital in Cameroon. Patients were matched in a ratio of 1

Readiness for Discharge After Foot and Ankle Surgery Using Peripheral Nerve Blocks: A Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing Spinal and General Anesthesia as Supplements to Nerve Blocks.

BACKGROUND: Neuraxial anesthesia is often viewed as superior to general anesthesia but may delay discharge. Comparisons do not typically use multimodal analgesics and nerve blockade. Combining nerve blockade with general anesthesia may reduce pain, opioid consumption, and nausea. We hypothesized that general anesthesia (with nerve blocks) would lead to earlier readiness for discharge, compared to spinal anesthesia (with nerve blocks). METHODS: All patients underwent ambulatory foot and ankle surgery, with a predicted case duration of 1-3 hours. All patients received popliteal and adductor can

A Comparative Study of the Ease of Radial Artery Cannulation Using the Palpation Method in Patients Undergoing Surgery Under General Anaesthesia: Pre-induction Versus Post-induction.

Introduction Radial artery cannulation is performed for continuous blood pressure monitoring and blood gas measurements in the operating room, critical care unit, and postoperative period. Various factors determine the artery used for cannulation, including accessibility, ease of placement, collateral flow, risk of infection, and embolic phenomena. Most anaesthesiologists consider anaesthesia induction the most likely timing of hemodynamic instability. These hemodynamic changes may affect the blood vessels in terms of their lumen and pulsation, thus posing a challenge to the anaesthesiologist

Effect of Remimazolam- versus Propofol-Based Total Intravenous General Anesthesia on Intraoperative Hemodynamic Stability for Major Spine Surgery in the Prone Position: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background and Objectives: Remimazolam offers advantages over propofol in terms of hemodynamic stability. However, it remains unclear whether remimazolam-based total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) can reduce intraoperative hypotension compared to propofol-based TIVA, especially after prone positioning. In this study, we compared the effects of remimazolam- and propofol-based TIVA on intraoperative hemodynamic stability in patients undergoing surgery in the prone position. Materials and Methods: This study randomly assigned patients undergoing major spinal surgery in the prone position to the pr

A randomised controlled trial to compare the occurrence of postoperative nausea and vomiting in early versus conventional feeding in children undergoing daycare surgery under general anaesthesia.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The time paediatric patients should resume oral intake after surgery is still ill-defined. No specific evidence suggests that the usual practice of postoperative fasting of 4-6 h to reduce postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is beneficial. The primary objective of this study was to assess the occurrence of PONV with early oral feeding compared to conventional feeding in children undergoing daycare surgery under general anaesthesia. METHODS: A randomised controlled trial was conducted in 300 children undergoing daycare surgery under general anaesthesia. Children were
