We investigated the prevalence of migraine (MIG), tension-type headache (TTH), and chronic headache in a population-based sample in Germany. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a widespread zoonosis. Difficulties in patient care were investigated in order to improve the clinical management of CE patients.

In 1988, we familiarised ourselves at Poitiers with the concept of operative treatment of the lower limbs and the spine in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) patients which Yves Rideau and his collaborators had developed there in the early 1980s. Investigations have shown that symptom prevalence varies according to the place of death. We sought to assess the symptom prevalence of chronically ill people in Germany and how this prevalence differs depending on the place of death. BACKGROUND: In Germany, measles vaccination coverage with two doses is not yet sufficient to prevent regional outbreaks. Among the 16 German federal states, vaccination coverage was lowest in Bavaria with 85% in 2008. From March to mid-April 2008, four neighbouring Bavarian counties reported 55 measles-cases mostly linked to an ongoing measles outbreak in an anthroposophic school in Austria. A nationwide laboratory-based surveillance study was conducted to analyse the epidemiology of varicella-associated invasive group A streptococcal (iGAS) infections in Germany. BACKGROUND: A 12-year-old female western lowland gorilla died in a zoological garden in Germany after exhibiting general neurological signs.
METHODS: Balamuthia mandrillaris was identified as causative agent by indirect immunofluorescent staining of brain sections and confirmed by PCR and respective sequencing.
RESULTS: The animal suffered from a chronic progressive necrotizing amebic meningoencephalitis.
CONCLUSION: This is the first case of Balamuthia amebic encephalitis in Germany.
