OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Few studies have reported the acoustic characteristics of youth choirs. In addition, scant data are available on youth choruses making the adjustments needed to sing at different dynamic levels in different registers. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to acoustically analyze the singing of a youth chorus to observe the evidence of the adjustments that they made to sing at two dynamic levels in three singing registers.
STUDY DESIGN: Single-group observational study.
METHODS: The participants were 47 members of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus who sang the same song samp

The purpose of this study was to quantitatively and qualitatively assess dynamic balance with accuracy in individuals with chronic ankle instability (CAI). To this aim, a motion capture system was used while participants performed the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT). Reached distances for the 8 points of the star were automatically computed, thereby excluding any dependence to the experimenter. In addition, new relevant variables were also computed, such as absolute time needed to reach each distance, lower limb ranges of motion during unipodal stance, as well as absolute error of pointing.

OBJECTIVE: To determine range of motion (ROM), postural alignment, and dynamic motion differences between those with and without medial knee displacement (MKD) during the overhead squat (OHS). We hypothesized those with MKD would have restricted ROM, differing postural alignment, and poorer quality dynamic motion than those without MKD.
DESIGN: Observational.
SETTING: University Research Laboratory.
PARTICIPANTS: Ninety-seven healthy recreationally active college-aged individuals.
INDEPENDENT VARIABLES: Groups were determined by the presence (MKD group) or absence (control group) of MKD du

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of a dynamic training program versus a muscle relaxation training program as home exercise in patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases. Fifty-four patients (mean age 54 years, mean symptom duration 14 years) were randomized to one of the two programs. After personal instructions every patient exercised at home for half an hour, 5 days a week during 3 months. Before and after the interventions, all patients were assessed for health-related quality of life, joint tenderness and physical capacities. The dynamic training group had improved in p

This study develops a novel automated method for measuring continuous dynamics of dog facial behavior based on video-based tracking of 46 facial landmarks grounded in the Dog Facial Action Coding System. This method is applied for comparing the facial behavior of ( n 1 = 7 ) brachycephalic (Boston Terrier) and ( n 2 = 7 ) normocephalic (Jack Russel Terrier) dogs in four different contexts, eliciting various inner states: positive (play and called by name) and negative (separation and stranger). Having objectively quantified facial dynamics in brachycephalic and normocephalic dogs, we have

AIM: Despite studies highlighting mitochondrial dynamics in preeclampsia (PE), the regulatory mechanisms of mitochondrial dynamics-related genes (MD-RGs) in PE remain unclear. This study aims to explore these mechanisms.
METHODS: PE-related datasets (GSE10588 and GSE98224) and 23 MD-RGs were used. Differential expression, protein-protein interaction (PPI) network, machine learning (ML), gene expression, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses were conducted to screen for PE biomarkers. A nomogram was established to predict PE occurrence. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and im

Fluorination is known to modulate the photophysical properties of conjugated aromatic systems by changing the properties in excited states. Methyl salicylate (MS), which undergoes keto-enol tautomerization, plays a key role as a functional building block in the development of photoprotective materials, including UV filters and photostabilizers. While MS has been widely studied, the effects of fluorination on its excited-state dynamics remain unclear until now. In the present study, we show the effects of mono- and tetrafluorination(s) on the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT)

Pupil responses are commonly used to provide insight into visual perception, autonomic control, cognition, and various brain disorders. However, making inferences from pupil data can be complicated by nonlinearities in pupil dynamics and variability within and across individuals, which challenge the assumptions of linearity or group-level homogeneity required for common analysis methods. In this study, we evaluated luminance evoked pupil dynamics in young healthy adults (n = 10, M:F = 5:5, age 19-25 years) by identifying nonlinearities, variability, and conserved relationships across individua

AIM: The regeneration ability of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) is essential for vital pulp preservation therapy, but may be disrupted by inflammatory senescence. Mitochondrial dynamics proteins maintain mitochondrial homeostasis and could alleviate inflammatory senescence, though their impact on DPSCs' functions and clinical prognosis remains unclear.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Human inflammatory and normal dental pulp were ethically collected from clinic-extracted wisdom teeth to detect inflammation, senescence, mitochondrial dynamics, and oxidative stress markers. The DPSCs' inflammatory senes

Despite effective antiretroviral therapy, cognitive impairment remains prevalent among people with HIV (PWH) and decrements in executive function are particularly prominent. One component of executive function is cognitive flexibility, which integrates a variety of executive functions to dynamically adapt one's behavior in response to changing contextual demands. Though substantial work has illuminated HIV-related aberrations in brain function, it remains unclear how the neural oscillatory dynamics serving cognitive flexibility are affected by HIV-related alterations in neural functioning. PURPOSE: Previous studies have shown delayed cardiac vagal reactivation after high-intensity endurance exercise when estimated with heart rate variability (HRV). However, the recovery dynamics of RR intervals (RRI) and HRV after a maximal incremental exercise test have been studied less in non-athletic population and especially in females. The main aim of the study was to examine the recovery dynamics of RRI and HRV immediately after a maximal cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) in adult females.
METHODS: Twenty-eight healthy, novice recreational female runners (33.7 ± 4.2 years) were select

High-intensity intermittent training (HIIT) in a normobaric hypoxic environment enhances exercise capacity, possibly by increasing the mitochondrial content in skeletal muscle; however, the molecular mechanisms underlying these adaptations are not well understood. Therefore, we investigated whether HIIT under normobaric hypoxia can enhance the expression of proteins involved in mitochondrial biogenesis and dynamics in rat gastrocnemius muscle. Five-week-old male Wistar rats (n = 24) were randomly assigned to the following four groups: (1) sedentary under normoxia (20.9% O2) (NS), (2) training
